Sign McGovern, Wyatt Teller, James Daniels, Cole Strange and draft LG Chase Bisontis and C Logan Jones. Now you have your starter and your depth. I’d also bring in somebody like Will Hernandez to compete for depth.

McGovern at $16 mil and Teller at $10 mil is really good and and about $14 mil less than Linderbaum and Zion will cost.
McGovern would be nice, but everyone is waiting to see where Linderbaum signs and for how much. If he accepts the Raven's deal at over 20mil McGovern will probably be right around 20m. Even worse, if Linderbaum hits the free agent market and they pay over what the Ravens offered you could see McGovern over 20m. I just don't think either one of them are a realistic option for the Chargers, IMHO.
    1) Cut Becton, Boz(ret), Dissly, DD, Fisk, and Dupree
    2) Re-sign Tart, Hand (4m), Phillips (5m)
    3) Sign the ERFA's Williams, Patterson, and Vidal (3m).
    4) Sign free agents Cole Strange (OG-1.5 m), Whyatt Teller (OG-10m), Luke Fortner (OC-6.5m), Brunskill (OC-vet min) Leo Chenal (LB-5m), Rashid Shaheed (WR- 14m), Cade Otten (TE-8m) Greg Dulcich (TE-3m), K'Lavon Chaisson (ED 9m), Myers (DT-7.8m), Alec Ingold (FB-6m), Hendrickson (ED-25m), Seumalo (OG-9m), AVT (OG). Jenkins (OG- 12m)

Here is a little fun fact for everyone. Luke Fortner and Clinkscale were both at Kentucky from 2017-2020. Clink was the DBs coach and of course Fortner was their center.
      1) Cut Becton, Boz(ret), Dissly, DD, Fisk, and Dupree
      2) Re-sign Tart, Hand (4m), Phillips (5m)
      3) Sign the ERFA's Williams, Patterson, and Vidal (3m).
      4) Sign free agents Cole Strange (OG-1.5 m), Whyatt Teller (OG-10m), Luke Fortner (OC-6.5m), Brunskill (OC-vet min) Leo Chenal (LB-5m), Rashid Shaheed (WR- 14m), Cade Otten (TE-8m) Greg Dulcich (TE-3m), K'Lavon Chaisson (ED 9m), Myers (DT-7.8m), Alec Ingold (FB-6m), Hendrickson (ED-25m), Seumalo (OG-9m), AVT (OG). You think the two premium centers are over-priced, but you are willing to budget for this:
        "Rashid Shaheed (WR- 14m)"

We all have our priorities, I suppose.

I think pretty much by definition, the price is ALWAYS right on a "prove it" deal. There are no expensive "prove it" deals.

14m for a WR that can take over KR/PR duties vs a 20mil center? Every day of the week and twice on Sunday. I can get that WR and a solid starting OC for the price of 1 Linderbaum or McGovern. Sounds like smart team building and upgrading to me.

There's ways to work deals to push money into a different years under contracts and also give outs down the road.

For Zion. It could be 4y/65m. 20mil signing bonus.
              Year 1 5mil base/cap hit 10m
              Year 2 10mil base/cap hit 15m
              Year 3 10mil base/cap hit 15m
              Year 4 20mil base. Extend/Out Year. Save 15m.

Zion will recieve 25mil year 1. And collected 35mil after 2 years. That 17.5m avg for next 2 seasons. But cap hit only 10mil for 2026 and 15m for 2027. And Cap goes up every year.
Who has it better than us?

Let’s just get both McGovern and Shaheed and not worry about it

That would be nice but man I just see Hortiz spending that kind of money on an OC. I don't know, maybe I'm the odd ball out in left field on this one.

First I will concede: it's possible. Secondly I will concede: Shaheed would 'fit' need and philosophy.

But it wouldn't be my team-building approach. We can add speed returner/5th WR for far less. I want resource allocation tuned for the trenches this offseason.

                      What center?
                      Fortner, Saints

You're right you could find a 5th WR later in the draft but again Shaheed also doubles as KR/PR which would allow you to cut DD, but Shaheed wouldn't be a 5th WR he would be replacing KA. With close to 20 players needing to be added to the roster I'm just trying to get the most bang for my buck.
                      1) Cut Becton, Boz(ret), Dissly, DD, Fisk, and Dupree

Here is a nice breakdown by a Jags fan of Fortner after he was drafted by the Jags.

                        1) Cut Becton, Boz(ret), Dissly, DD, Fisk, and Dupree
                        2) Re-sign Tart, Hand (4m), Phillips (5m)
                        3) Sign the ERFA's Williams, Patterson, and Vidal (3m).
                        4) Sign free agents Cole Strange (OG-1.5 m), Whyatt Teller (OG-10m), Luke Fortner (OC-6.5m), Brunskill (OC-vet min) Leo Chenal (LB-5m), Rashid Shaheed (WR- 14m), Cade Otten (TE-8m) Greg Dulcich (TE-3m), K'Lavon Chaisson (ED 9m), Myers (DT-7.8m), Alec Ingold (FB-6m), Hendrickson (ED-25m), Seumalo (OG-9m), AVT (OG). Sometimes lesser o-lineman get unlocked after their first few seasons, and are solid there-after. Also true: sometimes lesser o-lineman secure good PFF scores for a year because of strength of schedule or grading foibles.

Fortner looks pretty solid in his PFF grades this last year. Dare I ask: Did you check out previous seasons? (hint: some Becton/Boze-level grades there).

I don't have the answers. Just trying to ask the right questions.
