Chargers have plenty of effing cap space. They truly do. They can pay good players to make the roster better.
oh geez. no matter who we want, he won't be there at 22 nowadays! they can't draft them ALL before 22, can they?

    damn them!

Egbuka is going to be a stellar starting NFL WR. bank it. I was right on Flowers, I'll be right again.

I don't think I trade up for any of the skill players, given all of the good skill players to choose from. just me.

Same as Metcalf -- asking price and contract

Contract could be near what Crosby got.

I am against trading up for Golden just pointing out --- that there could be a cost to getting the player

          Adams - its cap space
Golden - it could be a 3rd or 4th round pick

but you are correct - some of these players will be there at 22 and not have to trade up

At 30 years of age no, we are still a year or two away, if paying for an edge make it one of the younger guys.
Sweat or Koonce, maybe Odeybingo too.

If he hits the market, Odeybingo is my sleeper Front 7 pick. Sweat will hit the market most likely as Philly picked Baun and they have young DL to pay soon

                Same.

Free agency is for placeholders...always try to draft your own stars...

Until you are one or two pieces away...for now, hope we build smart..

By placeholders, they can still be good players...just not premium who can command top dollar...Adams age adjusts him as possibly an affordable star, because you know its probably a two year finishing run...Trey will want a bigger commitment...and plus the draft compensation. Gonna lean no...and I like him way better than Metcalf, as a splash move...but still...not buying in...

One of the guys that works for me is hard core Philly-anysport fan - he's worn something Eagles every day for like 4 weeks. he's wearing his new SB Champs hoodie today.

he thinks Philly won't resign Sweat or Becton due to other priorities and cap limits, thinks they lose both. I told him they will both look stellar in bolts next year, he can still root for them.

I would agree about drafting your stars and developing. But, Telesco didn't do that and now the Chargers have to augment the roster in free agency. Now, that doesn't mean be stupid and reckless. But, they also have a QB about to start a big money contract, they should have bookend OTs for the next few years if Slater gets extended, a solid WR in Ladd and some pieces on defense -- so with the cap space they have, they should push it a bit this year to improve the roster.

Allbright made the point that free agency is about spending A dollars for B talent. That may very well be true. But when you have an IOL that was not good, lack of WR and TE on offense - the draft alone can't fix it all

The Chargers now have the second most cap space after the Raiders paid Crosby, and that doesn't include Pipkins yet . If he is released, they will have $97.4m of cap space.

Spend it and get better. Not stupidly - and trading a 1st/3rd and giving DK Metcalf would be stupid to me. Probably giving Trey Hendrickson the Crosby type contract plus trading picks, might be stupid
But adding solid players for the interior OL, bringing in Front 7 and adding WR is not stupid to me. The bar for the IOL is so low that most anything should be an improvement without going crazy

you guys sure are adamant about your absolute certainty the Chargers should follow a methodology that not one other team in the league follows?

What do you think it is that makes every team in the entire league so stupid? I mean, its not just a "crazy Al Davis" running around doing wacky things - EVERY TEAM signs big FAs at times. Witness last year's two SB contenders - they both have big dollar high profile FAs on their teams. Are Philly and KC stupid?

I don't think Metcalf is worth either a 1+3 nor $30+M, its not about him, its about the theory

I think Becton would be cheaper and more valuable than Pip.

This is about where I'm at with this. We aren't air coryell anymore. All I keep seeing is we need a #1 WR.
No we don't! We just need good receivers.

Cowherd says it best and why I don't really want DK Metcalf. And sorry I think Schultz is full of shit
