I wonder if they kick the tires on Edge Dante Fowler? He had 11 sacks last year. I think he could be a good 2 year rental.

The post from last year are still here..
Fans unhappy thought team had no shot at playoffs, especially after losing Allen, Williams, Ekeler and Everett.. That team of 2023 scored 20.4pts a game. Many TPB fans were convinced and let any fan who disagreed know that the team was going to hardly be able to score any points. And it had a 24th rank scoring defense and there was no way it could be great in just 1 season, even with last place schedule..They were certain it was going to be a rough year. 8 wins if they were lucky. Even with a better HC and GM. They wanted us to accept defeat.

Some fans chose to give Harbaugh and Hortiz benefits of doubt. That the commitment to physical football would pay dividends. And solid seasons and playoffs was possible. Chargers scored 23.6pts per game. The defense held opponents to 17.7. They won 11 games.

Now it appears those same naysayers are back to tell us of the doom and gloom of having a harder schedule and that last year was luck because of scheduling. Of the futile off season by Hortiz especially at IOL and the no chance to go back to playoffs. Just a rebuild year accept it.

Some of us fans think Harbaugh can build out a winning battalion in 6 to 9 months with some new faces added to a core group of players. That the roster is yet to be completed. That Najee Harris will be back to a power scheme rush game which he is better suited for and had great success in college with. That Herbert and others that remain will be in year 2 of scheme and more comfortable and familiar with their roles and responsibilities. That winning the AFC West is possible.

            Bolt up. LFG!

                Positive "what ifs"...

What if Rice really was stashed on IR to hide him, and he was "rehabing" on that hill his old man famously trained on?

What if Justin E. was good enough to play, but Ford and Tart were doing so well, Jim and Joe honored the vets, and let them showcase their play? If your gonna use the one year deal as a tool, you gotta let em play if they earn it...nobody who is hungry and wants to revitilize their career is gonna take a 1 yr prove it deal to get buried on a depth chart...and we want guys on those deals to want to prove something...meanwhile, Justin E. watches, learns, maybe even trains more...no between game rest for him....

What if Junior is who everybody thought he was gonna be? That will be the best LB corp we have had in a decade or more.

What if Cam and Still build on their surprising success as rookies? With that really good safety group, one of the best secondary squads we have had in years.

Still work to do...yea...we need another good draft...but I consider last years haul a solid W...that makes this staff 1-0 in the draft...still optimistic.

Why do people think we need a WR1? Ladd is our WR1. WR1 and X receiver are not always the same thing. If the opposing team has to double cover a guy to prevent him from getting over 100 yds and a td or two? Thats a #1. That was Ladd by seasons end...as a rookie.

But we do need an X...hopefully Mike stays healthy...if so...really not a bad group...Q takes another step...maybe we do draft a guy...Rice steps up...

                Sure...question marks with this group...

                But Ladd is your #1

I hope you dudes did some reading when not typing your impatient vitriol.

Example...Zeitler has family in Naahville plus he gets great OL coach Callahan.

                  On to the next Guard.

One year sluggo coming up next week or later.

PON: Guard (or two). EDGE. DE. DT. NT. RB #1b. TE-Flex.

That leaves two extra picks and second, third wave, post draft UFAs.

                    From Poppers article:

The Chargers are now at 55 rostered players. Only the top 51 cap hits count against the cap through the offseason.

                    Projected total space: $48.46 million.

Projected effective space (which includes draft pick compensation): $45.27 million.

Projected spending space (which includes draft pick compensation and an $8 million in-season budget): $37.27 million.

The roster will get to 90 players by the time training camp begins in July. They currently have 10 draft picks. They will add between 15 and 20 undrafted free agents. That leaves between five and 10 veteran contracts left to add to the cap sheet. If it is 10, then the Chargers can average about $3.7 million in 2025 cap hits for each of those 10 signings.
If you think his numbers are close to accurate, we have $37.27 left million to spend on between 5 and 10 players. If we extended Slater, we could free up to an addition $10 million if I remember correctly. That could leave room for a bigger contract or two but I'm not sure who that would be at this time.

We wont extend Slater, why would we? If we let him go we could score the magical 5th round comp pick and that my friend would launch us to the SB victory. Imagine all the wonders and magic that could be made with that high of a comp pick. Or at least that is what I have been reading here lately.

His numbers are accurate. But at this point - what players are out there to spend big money on. Becton for sure. Scherff is a one year deal. Trading for Andrews or Goedert. A lot of the players signed for the vet minimum won't affect the cap either.

At this point: Becton or Scherff for RG; I still want Andre James for Center, a good TE and DLine help. Thats still probably only 25m or so. And the Chargers have not added much cap to 2026 at all. Bozeman, Scott, the CB Jackson, Dye - so maybe $25m -- not much at all

As for the Slater extension - I will believe it when I see it.
