Smart people doing stupid things. That's how I see the Hortiz/Harbaugh choice of keeping Perryman over Colson now. Hopefully I'm proven wrong.

Perryman has been important.
Now if you wanted to say that about the punter or the interior line situation keeping Bozeman for 2 years I would agree.

Mostly good decisions sprinkled with a few terrible ones.

I don't like cutting Junior Colson and exposing him to other needier teams either but in this 3rd year, I lean on trusting the FO and the coaching staff over my feelings and past pedigree. We still won't know what Joe Hortiz is working on to add to the 53 man roster and if releasing the 3rd rounder from 2024 and the 4th rounder from 2025 is going to be some form of addition by subtraction, then I will take this. Let's just wait and see what happens after 1 PM tomorrow.

Kennard's fate was kind of sealed when Mesidor fell to us and that's how it goes when you have an improved roster, we just need to get used to it...

The Colson one is the one that gives me more pause because we don't exactly have the best ILB room out there, but in this style of defense the linebackers are already augmented by Derwin, he's a linebacker/slot/safety hybrid...I do believe Colson is going to get picked right up off waivers, but on the plus side we have a rising star in Wax, if not for Wax I think Colson would still be on the roster...

Your statement does not relate to Jim & Joe in this case. Junior was Joe's own 3rd round pick in 2024 so he has ownership of that pick even if either Jim or Jesse were pounding the table for Colson. Then medical conditions and injuries happened , unfortunate stuff for both the Team and Junior. In fact the smarts of Jim & Joe is in them showing that they have no favoritism and if the previous FO's remaining players show more promise to contribute, they recognize value in talent, hard work and some good fortunes. Case in point, QJ!

great teams find great position players who are willing to play ST's..... choosing STers who suck at regular positions is fine if we had a 75 player roster, but one of the reasons Chargers have had such bad depth when we have injuries, is because the backups are just STers?

The air coryell Chargers played starters on ST's, like Chandler and Winslow...

If Wax makes the team doesn't he simply take Phillips role, and you keep Colson? I just hope Perryman can play a full season for once and be full strength if we make the playoffs?

Could be wrong, but pretty sure the top guards, guys like Q Nelson and Trey Smith, are getting paid the same amount Slater is getting paid this year. His Height and Arm Length scream natural guard. But another part of the reason behind the idea, is about putting Alt in his natural position, Left Tackle. The last piece of the puzzle is Burke. If Burke is that dude, it would be really nice to have your tallest, longest armed guys on the edge. We all know Slater is great where he's at, it's kind of about whether there's an even better option available. Matt Smith and Popper where dancing around the idea as well.

I wouldn't be opposed to this .... but Slater (& Burke) have to demonstrate / redemonstate that they are first rate before even considering this.

Change an all pro OT for a good/decent one? Most will say no!!

what do you guys make of the Tony Jefferson cut? I think he does the same thing he did 2 years ago and ends up on the PS then back on the team once guys start falling like flies...

I agree.... James makes our LBer room look better.... but this defense does need a 250 lb fast instinctive thumper who can stuff the run and cover...we have missed that since Seau.... now Seau is a HFer but most experst expoected Colston to be a pro bowl quality type of LBer....and leader of defense type of player...

Perryman will get injured within four games. He's 33 years old and he tackles violently. This we know. Colson is 10 years younger than Perryman. Sure he had the shoulder injury last year but given the ages of the players I have to go with Colson for now and into the future.

He turned out to be neither. Colson just wasn't good enough. He had plenty of opportunities this year to grab a spot and didn't do it. I'm not surprised he's cut. Not surprised about Kennard either. Two guys with good college resumes who could not make the leap

I don't know. I honestly did not expect him to be cut, I thought his potential would earn him a roster spot even if he's still a work in progress. As you note, he's still quite young. But they are in win now mode, they are keeping the best players in the moment.
