I agree, but overall draft stats dont mean much.

The percentages of a draft pick living up to potential are much higher than average for great organizations..... and even lower for bad organizations like /Chargers used to be....

even fans can get first rounders right a decent amount of time, but the great organizations are the ones that hit more than they miss after the 1st round... especially in rounds 3-5 where great teams fill out their depth with key contributers and some future starters.....

“Much” higher is what - 15%? “Even lower” is how much - 5%? Either you know, or you’re making it up. Post actual data.

KLS is a 5th rounder. 5 is closer to 7 than it is to 2, right?

History says that 10% of 5th rounders become meaningful contributors. I am excited about our new R5ers too. But I try to be rational, and betting two R5 players both beat the 10% odds not just eventually, but on opening day, those are long odds. Common sense says hold onto Q as insurance. I am still baffled by the staunch resistance. I really am

Let's face it more than likely Bozeman will be our staring CENTER and Zion Johnson will be our starting LG! They're going that way!

That is the only downer of the off season, everything else pretty rosy.

I can give Zion one last chance but cant help but think Bozeman will be a disaster again

I don’t think everyone remembers the bandy and storm norton years.

Dont forget - bandy had a hell of a preseason too

Someone commented that this is the deepest Bolt team in many years...depth is important...QJ and Pip may have their warts, but they're better than the average backup...and it's still to be determined how QJ fares in the PS...

I see it as very unlikely that QJ will start making plays in the clutch, although it is possible.

We now have other players who should be given opportunities ahead of him.

BTW the whole reason for drafting QJ ahead of Zay was that we already had Keenan working mostly at slot. Now we have Ladd.

It is not possible for QJ to be both worthy of starter snaps at big slot, and contrarily for other weapon needy teams to be blindly uninterested in a trade.

Have a look at our roster spots, with our WR depth and with our offense, we would be better off keeping Fisk.

IMV a fresh start for QJ and the Chargers is in order, and maybe a trade partner will appear in late August.

DL just as concerning.

No guarantee Caldwell will be dominant in the center of the defense in his very first NFL season. If it turns out he is….then every team made a huge mistake not taking him in round 1 or 2 and he will be up for DROY honors.

It seems like most here are just assuming his first season will be as good as Poona was last year. That’s an exceedingly high expectation.

Realistically, that isnt going to happen simply because he’s a vet and the protocol that entitles them.

While I share your lack of confidence in QJ, I believe his “starter” status will be one to lose versus elevating any rookie ahead of him in training camp.

I dont think its that simple...and I think this staff is gonna put the best out there...competition is real with this staff...

Now, I will grant you, if Q keeps his head, has a good camp, looks good, is a good team guy, working hard, and its close? I can see him getting the nod early...

If he is successful, it only helps the team...both thru production helping us win, and raising his value as a commodity, either as a trade asset, or a comp return thru FA in a couple of years...

But if he stumbles, I imagine he gets the hook pretty quick, lol

Sure, “if he stumbles”, as you out it it, he gets demoted in the depth chart, but I didn’t say that wouldn’t happen.

I agree, until we see the IOL is different, I don’t see enough on paper to know for sure. I see one new stud I can bet on. Add in 1 rookie I doubt can be ready and one recycled reclamation (James) and thats what we’ve added to fix a dysfunctional 3-player group. 3-1 =2 unknowns imo. We are expecting someone we had last year plays better this year.
