If he were crippled, he absolutely should not play. The disagreement is should he play if he is healthy enough to play. Both sides have valid points, its opinion now. Each side has stated and restated the same opinion about 50 times each, no one at fault - I only note that another 50 posts will be redundant to the established record so I won't even repost my opinion.

I'll trust Jim and stand 100% behind him in his decision.

If my qb feels like he can play, then he plays! He knows that his line may not be up to the task, and yet, he says he will improve day by day and make the decision to go in or not.

I disagree. It shouldn’t be Herbert’s decision just like it’s not any other players decision who plays and who doesn’t.

I think it’s the coach with the consultation of medical staff and OC that make the decision, not Herbert.

There are other factors like does the OC think a 100% Heinicke improve the offense more than an 80% Herbert?

Do the protection schemes with two new Tackles work better with Heinicke or Herbert.

So much to weigh besides what Herbert wants to do. Absolutely should not be his decision. That’s what coaches are for.

If you had two bonafide tackles and a mobile Herbert it might work. You think he’s practicing sprinting on rollouts this week with his newly installed tackles?

How about doing that with Heinicke who is more mobile?

it comes back to whether Herbert can really play or not. if he can't roll out, then maybe sit him. we all know about the ankle.
