2 and 2 at the bye is excatly what Staley would have done and did when he was here. Beat the 2 bad teams on the schedule and lose to the two good teams on the schedule. Same old so far.

What concerns me is how pathetic the offence is under the new regime. You can love to run the ball, but turning Justin Herbert into the QB with the least passing yards of 32 starting QBs in the NFL is really fucked up

If we can get healthy and win the next 2 games 4-2 would be pretty good. We can hold our own against KC and with the players we didn't have for this game in we could do even better.

No but they didnt fold when they lost Rice, The most targeted WR in the NFL. They found a way to win as they always do as the Chargers found ways to lose, as they always do

We were 2-0 and handling the Steelers just fine before the injuries to Slater and Alt.

To me, its not coaching.

Its talent...

IMHO the coaching masked the lack of talent and the injuries took the mask off.

The run game numbers were overinflated because of a few long JK runs in the first two weeks. But even with Alt/Slater, Herbert was under a lot of duress the first 3 games. Most of this is up the middle, which we've all seen.

We need an entire new interior next year, no questions asked.

How much pounding does Herbert take this year, and does it affect his long-term commitment to football or irreparably affect his ability to play the game. You can legitimately argue that the latter has already happened.

To be fair, Chiefs have given up points on every opening drive this season - Chargers added to that statistic today

Aside from that the offense only came away with 3 points off a turnover in good field position. Injuries or not, 10 points in each of the last 2 games while winning the turnover battler is far from great.

It sucks. I'm just pointing out I understand why. The harsh reality is we are not a deep team yet and the O has been decimated by injuries after 4 games. The D has kept the games close, but ST have been so so and the O has struggled when the injuries happened.

Honestly it's even annoying following the in game threads because every single incompletion or mistake is an emotional crisis for many of you. Geez.

So to be clear - we have one group of people complaining about the team (on a board designed to give opinions about the team). And one group of people complaining about the people complaining.

I actually do think that having a capable center is foundational to the success of the entire oline and offense. Going back to Rivers and now to Herbert, whenever we've had any kind of success we usually had a standout center.

Anytime Hardwick went out and when he retired, our team, QB and offense in general regressed. Same thing with Corey Linsley. We've been absolutely terrible without a good center or an injured center the last 20 or so years.

For Herbert, a great center is essential. I'm sorry to say, but Herbert isn't Rivers who can call protections at the line, and change the plays reliably to more effective playcalls. If Rivers was here now, he'd be changing plays away from Roman's playcalls most of the time, I'm almost certain of that.

I'm pretty close to putting the thread on pause. There is a lot of football left in the season. I can see why some are disappointed in losing to the Chiefs (btw, the defending Superbowl Champs), again, in a one score game, but if you are taking it out against members, it doesn't belong here.

Really all this team needs is an oline. The defense is fine. It will continue to get better. The oline is kill the offense especially with the dumb penalties. They can't protect Herbert to save their lives. Which kind of sucks since that is what Harbaugh preached all season. I hope they totally retool this whole oline next year unless the group gets better. Herbert just like he has no confident and is expecting to get hit when he drops back.
