Call me old school or whatever, but I just don't believe football should be decided by the foot. If you leave a game up to a kicker then you get what you get, because there was a hundred other different plays that you could have made that wouldn't have left it up to that.

No bueno...take the TD...
Imagine Dobbins scores the TD with time left on the clock, and the opponent scores when they get the ball back. The game goes to OT, and the Bolts lose. Don't try to tell me that's a "bueno". It's not. FGs and PATs aren't guarantees, and neither is keeping the lead when you give the ball back to your opponent with time on the clock.
The reason this debate is going on here is precisely beCAUSE there are "no guarantees", no matter which option you choose.
If my defense is utterly gassed, I don't want to put them out on the field again in regulation (after Dobbins' score), much less in Overtime. Under those circumstances, having Dicker attempt a FG as time expires is the most logical choice.
Again, it depends on circumstances. There are no "one size fits all" solutions.

All things being equal, would you rather:
1. Force Joe Burrow to drive 40 yards into field goal range to tie the game.
2. Force Joe Burrow to drive 80 yards to score a TD to tie the game.
Which do you think has a higher chance of success?sigpic

Because if my defense is gassed, my decision is to kick the FGA as time expires, because the odds are better than 90% that Dicker makes a kick of less than 30yards.
