Roman is a problem.
Too much running inside on the Texans - needed to run wide against them and get outside
Not enough quick plays, motion, shorter passes
Roman needs to go
But yes, the OL does need to be fixed
On at least one running play that was stuffed, there was no way the Oline could have blocked everyone.
On another play the lumbering Matlock completely whiffed on a somewhat standard seal block on Anderson.
They chose for Matlock to be out there and if he misses blocks, that reflects poorly on Roman.

Chargers simply got out-played yesterday. Our OL vs their DL is a mis-match at every single position.
Their cornerbacks are very good... one of the best tandems in the league. If you want open receivers, your QB needs time.
This is why the Texans are the number 1 defense in the NFL. They have invested draft stock in the defense.
It's the players... plain and simple.
When we rebuild our IOL... then we will see the benefits. We tried at RG with Becton. It didn't work out. Nice try... but no cigar. Zion has never lived up to his draft status. Nice try... no cigar. Bozeman had a couple good years with the Ravens. But he has been bad for us. Nice try...
Protect the QB
Run the ball
Play great defense

If I was John Spanos I’d invite LT and LoNeal over to watch some game film and seek their advice.Originally posted by powderblueboy View Post

Perhaps Cam Cameron as well since he was the OC when LT set the 28 rushing TD record.

I'm ok if they re-sign Zion but would like to see them bring in someone to compete with him. Zion hasn't played bad this year and really is the only bright spot on this o-line which isn't saying a lot.Originally posted by Boltnut View PostChargers simply got out-played yesterday. I know a lot of people are hammering GRo and Devlin but look at what they are working with. Hart has been out of the league for 3 freakin years. Coaching can only carry a player so far. If the player doesn't have IT there is only so much you can do. I just don't understand how people think you can bring in a 5th and 6th string OT and expect the team to not miss a beat especially when those 5th and 6th stringers are replacing 2 all pros.1) Cut Becton, Boz(ret), Dissly, DD, Fisk, and Dupree
2) Re-sign Tart, Hand (4m), Phillips (5m)
3) Sign the ERFA's Williams, Patterson, and Vidal (3m).
4) Sign free agents Cole Strange (OG-1.5 m), Whyatt Teller (OG-10m), Luke Fortner (OC-6.5m), Brunskill (OC-vet min) Leo Chenal (LB-5m), Rashid Shaheed (WR- 14m), Cade Otten (TE-8m) Greg Dulcich (TE-3m), K'Lavon Chaisson (ED 9m), Myers (DT-7.8m), Alec Ingold (FB-6m), Hendrickson (ED-25m), Seumalo (OG-9m), AVT (OG). Jenkins (OG- 12m)

IMO, coaches made a bad mistake in starting Hart over Deculus.Originally posted by Chargers8491 View Post

Deculus sucks but he’s played enough that you know exactly when and what help he needs. Hart was an inexperienced unknown with zero continuity working at LT with the OL.

Can't argue that. IMHO, they are still trying to figure out the best combo to go with. Unfortunately, this was probably the wrong game to experiment, but I do understand it.Originally posted by Riverwalk View Post

If i have the choice, id get rid of Devlin instead. And Hortiz damn well better replace Bozeman and Becton....he just has to. It will say a lot if he sticks with Bozeman again. They just have to recognize we need a better OC. Trade Becton back to Philly for ....i dont care what. 7th, a player, a cheese steak sammish....trade him to anyone, i dont care.Originally posted by gzubeck View PostZero confidence in Roman. He's had his opportunities to show he can innovate and prove he's a playoff caliber coach. He's not. I'm here to be excited about Charger football. I'm not with a Roman led offense. They won't sell tickets nor create fan hype next season with roman in charge. Sorry, the brand has become stale under his supervision.

They all suck. There are no good solutions at the OT position... certainly not anyone that could handle the Texans defensive ends. Even Slater and Alt had trouble with them last year.Originally posted by Riverwalk View Post

Zion hasn't progressed. Has he hit his ceiling? They didn't offer him his 5th year option... and he hasn't shown enough improvement from last year. I'm ready to bring in a proven free agent that fits the scheme. I'm ignoring the calls for coaching changes until we see what they can do with real players along the OL. It could be the coaches... but it's so hard to tell. The players are so bad.Originally posted by Chargers8491 View Post
