Dan Fouts will always be my favorite Chargers' quarterback. I'm just disappointed that CBS let him go as a game announcer. I never really understood why.
my childhood idol always, but now I have Rivers and Herbert ahead of him from a pure QB POV, certainly neither will ever touch Fouts in the style department, Dan was the man! "The most interesting man in the world"

The Chargers have had some great QBs after Fouts, but none of them have had the impact on pro football that Fouts had. He and Coryell changed the NFL.

Fouts was tough as nails and an unparalleled leader. Football was different 40 years ago. I was living in Boston when Darryl Stingley was hit. I'm a huge fan of both Rivers and Herbert, but Dan was simply the man.

Fouts, captaining Air Coryell, was the leader of childhood team. Fouts, Winslow, Joiner, JJ, Chandler, Louie, Rolf, etc. are all unforgettable to me.
I still love to hear him on the preseason games. I wish he was still on CBS.
even to this day, I enjoy watching any QB that wears #14 (Darnold, etc.). I just love seeing a #14 jersey back in the pocket throwing a pass.

Me too. My childhood hero for sure.
I got to meet him when he was covering practice for the Niners ahead of a preseason game vs SD, (in La Jolla.)
I knew he would be there, so I brought a Tops card and he signed it. We talked for about 20 mins, he asked what I thought about the current state of the Chargers. I told him I was at the Holy Roller when I was 10 and he laughed and said "sorry".
Saw earlier in the thread i wanted to bring up …..if Pitt loses with the Cincy and if miami wins plus Denver tanking I believe Miami has the tiebreak and gets in. That probably puts a lesser team in the 7 spot and Tua is still out from hip injury this weekend.
Would you rather have a tougher team in like Cincy to challenge the Bills for a possible upset to make things easier IF we got thru to further rounds or just see the Burro sink into the mud and the Tua lead team get in? Its tough for me….the distaste for both qbs is strong in this one…id almost prefer Denver to stay in….
I think knowing the Pitt result makes for an interesting decision. I particularly want to shove dirt into the Duhs face in their stadium on principal alone and that probably means Herb plays at least a half or more. I want 11 wins….its just more respectable. We need to exit feeling on a roll. Losing to the Duhs is not a good feeling going in to the playoffs. We really embody Harbaugh here means we go in for the W regardless of the seeding but i expect Pitt will not be the victor. Besides sweeping the Duhs after them helping us get Harbs is just too good of a setup.
Plus side of a loss is it screws the Duhs pick way out of good qb without a costly tradeup scenario which enjoy seeing the mortgage the pigpen future. That would bring some joy sering TT reach yet again and F the Brady Duhs into the future.

Rolf was interesting. We all loved him, and his story. It’s interesting to look at just how less accurate and powerful ALL kickers in that era were vs now. 50 yard FGs were a rarity, all kickers had much lower percentages across the board at all ranges than now. Rolf had a lifetime 70% FG success rate, fans would chase a kicker out of the parking lot today with a 70% FG rate nowadays. Looking at his splits
Even our worst recent kickers all had FG rates better than that. It’s like the physical football changed or something … they sure kick it further and straighter in the modern era than back then.

Crazy how we had Fouts, Brees, Rivers, now Herbert. 4 future HOF QB's.
