HOU is #14 in points allowed at 21.9ppg. They are top 5 in yards/game, which is seen as the primary metric for team defense, and not scoring. but they are only 10 yards per game less than LAC. LAC was #1 with 17.7 ppg allowed.

Offensive scoring, LAC shot up to #11 in the league with our strong closing quarter of the season. We finished a respectable 23.6 ppg. I want to see that > 25 ppg next year. HOU was #19 with 21.9 ppg.

So we are -4.2 in points allowed and +1.7 points scored, net net +5.9 points per game advantage vs HOUS

HOU played in the worst division in AFC, overall record 25-43
LAC - AFCW overall record 40-28

HOU 10-7: 5-1 in AFCS, 5-6 vs rest of league
LAC 11-6: 4-2 in AFCW, 7-4 vs rest of league

    I like our odds …

      Re: Slater

Remember this is why we also got Ben Herbert - to make these guys resilient. "I'm going to make you tougher to break."

Hoping the MRI looks clean and he is ready to roll.

IMO the primary metric for defense is scoring, the other stats are meaningless in comparison. Points, or the lack of them, is what decides games, not stats.

One game at a time but you guys realize we're LIKELY to play in KC in the divisional round.
assuming Ravens beat Steelers and Bills bear Broncos.

We get the first crack at ending their 3peat.
            We can do it.

Hoping Palmer can go. He has had some very clutch moments for us this year. He strikes me as the kind of player that would shine in the playoffs.

If he's available, all of a sudden we are flush with competent weapons mainly due to some late season emergences from DD and Smartt, as well as Chark finally making a play today.

                    Now we can "rise up."

Herbert is rapidly developing enough chemistry with our main weapons, McConkey, Dissly and QJ.

We have some juice at RB. There's DD. Palmer, Hassan, Smartt. Who knows.

This is all gonna get amplified in a hurry. Our young players will have escalated growth with the experience, @ HOU and beyond.

                    Shock the world.
                    We play modern Harball.

I 100% agree. I’ve long argued the year Rivera had the “#1 defense” here that he really didn’t’ because yards allowed was artificially depressed by the historically horrible STs that gave teams the ball inside the 50 on the regular and allowed teams to get leads and run out the clock at game ends without needing to gain more yards. He was a good coach, and it got him his CAR gig, so good on him. But watching that defense, it didnt play like a #1 defense.

It’s the play calling that really improved. It was stagnant and Harbaugh and Roman resolved it.
                          Hopefully it continues..
