I am not seeing anyone excusing the line play or the pathetic play of Dissly and weak effort from QJ....but Herbert just gave us the worst game of his carer when it counted the most. I for one am done making excuses for him

When you blame 1 person (Herbert) and him alone you are in fact giving everyone else a free pass. No Herbert did not have a good game but the ball watchers will not see anything other than the QB.

Agree with this. I just think Herbert is still the guy. I don’t even know if a team that has a QB to trade for? I think your final point is spot on and that was with what Spanos did by hiring Jim and Joe

There is a 0.00001% chance this happens due to cap but if somehow it became a Madden game it would be funny to see what we could get for Herbert it has to be like 3 firsts probably more, Stafford brought two. Then you trade for JJ Mcarthy and get Jeanty and a bunch of help. It COULD work out but if it doesn’t it would be a huge whiff of historic proportions.

Harbaugh loves Herbert too much imho, but there is a reality where something like this is going to occur lol

100% Smartt was exhilarating when he got play time. He made plays happen. I think the biggest mistake of the night was not playing him more.

Should have been starting over any WR or TE other than McConkey.

I think people are jumping to conclusions we wanted to fix the tackle and drafted Alt and we needed to fix up the middle. Reason why we were saying skill players needed to be picked like Nabors and Bowers was because it was obvious. Mocokonkley we hit on him but we need more so when he’s not open or being focused on we need to be able to go somewhere else.

Give me Loveland with the 1st pick. I’ll take him. Give me the Reciever from Ohio State some Texas receivers. Texas running back.

not sure to the degree, but will admit that I was looking past this game and onto KC.... @least a wee bit.... not good mojo, and....

think Big Jim has a question to answer.... he seemed noticeably uncomfortable one series when it was third and ten and we had two incompletions on first and second down.... he is noticeably more comfortable when running the ball, and.... is that Charger football ??

and know we can point to the line and say Herbert didn't have time to throw, and.... we didn't throw it long much today, and.... if you have JH10 @QB, don't see any way you don't throw it long and fairly oft ??

it's on Harbaugh, and.... think he has a decision re: GRo ?? might be unfair to make him the fall guy, and just not certain Harbaugh/GRo football is the answer ??

recall when we were hoping to land Harbaugh as our HC and peoples were exclaiming that Harbaugh would unleash the real Justin Herbert, and then recall checking a Michigan box score and where JJ McCarthy threw the ball all of 8 times.... not soon to be forgotten.

personally, think that's decision one.... is Harbaugh football Herbert football ?? is it Chargers football ?? and most importantly.... is it still Super Bowl football ??

looking forward to the offseason and know that we will yet again have a better and deeper roster after Joe has another offseason under his belt, and....

Would love to have a smidge of QB controversy like the 49ers had with Smith/Kaepernick, though I think JJ is a much better prospect than Kaepernick could ever hope to be.

This is a fair take.

On the doomed 4th down play...why even throw it to QJ when it is painfully obvious he has run the route short? I will have to review that play and see if there were other options...but this is where you would think your star QB would try to create on his own, in a crucial moment during the game? But robo-Herbert has to throw it to the guy short of the first? Huh??

I still like Herbie, i am not one saying trade him or anything rash like that, but i am done making excuses for him and cant really question the pundits who wont include him in their top QB group either.

I almost hate that the Steelers lost out, I think people would feel better about this loss if they had lost to the Ravens, but because it's the Texans everyone is going to over react and I will never use the fires as an excuse but there is not way in hell that on a short week their practices affected and that it had no bearing on this game...

Folks, feel free to jump off the bandwagon, you'll just jump right back on once you see how improved the roster is going to be next season

And the thing is the national pundits dont give a damn about exuses. Stroud found a way to get some things done after a tough start.

Not going to argue the point that Herbert had a horrible game because he did. The Chargers ran into a buzzsaw tonight. Stroud had a running game. The Chargers not so much.

If they aren't going IOL, they need a beast of a TE and WR that can break coverages and get throws out fast to them.
