He did have some bad luck in SF. He's performed well enough in 2 preseason games now to get some attention. What's he worth? Who do you think is watching? I feel like he's 1 injury (to another QB) away from someone moving to acquire him.

He will be worth at least a 6th, when some team's starting QB goes down.
Dallas spent a 4rth on him.
All the teams not satisfied with their backup QBs are watching.
It would be a very bad move to trade a guy likety split who came here to develop into a starter, under the tutelege of Harbaugh.

Two decent pre season outings dont all of a sudden give Lance a bunch of trade value. Building up his trade value is a much larger sample size. Having Lance as our QB2 is more valuable than a 7th round pick

So in a year where we lost our best OL player and are depending on Trey Pipkins to start 17+ games and protect Justin Herbert who already has an injury history stemming from hits taken while in the pocket... this is the year we should trade our best backup quarterback for a day 3 pick?
No thanks.
If we're in the playoffs and Herbert goes down, I'd much rather have the elusive Lance lead the offense over whatever I saw from Heinicke.
I could be wrong but I can't imagine anyone being excited for a 5th round pick if Herbert goes down.WINNING UGLY IN 2025

If we keep him through this season and he signs elsewhere for next season, the comp pick would be in the 2027 draft, not the 2026 draft. Still, he is worth more to us as a backup this year than a 5th-7th pick in the 2026 draft. Maybe the price tag goes much higher during the season, before the trade deadline, if a team in contention loses their starting QB for the year. Then it depends on how we are doing, and Herbert's health.
And while he has looked worlds better than before, it's a small sample size largely against backups. He has avoided making the mistakes he was making before with regularity, and he is playing with more poise. But against the Saints he largely got it done by running. Still has a ways to go, but at least he has made significant progress.
