That's enough positivity for now. Time to go back to our regularly scheduled programming -- doom and gloom.
There is a real concern with the lack of pass rush on this defense, whether interior or EDGE. Hand and Tart may get a bit of pressure, but they need someone to really step up on the interior or get help. Perhaps Tito can develop back to his 2022 form, but I'm not gambling on it. Certainly, Minter and Clinkscale can get creative with coverages and DB blitzes, but that's not sustainable over the course of the season. Maybe they can let Tuli free roam on the line and rush as a 3T time to time -- there was some success in those old NASCAR packages, just replace Bosa with Dupree. They also really need Kennard to at least develop as a 3rd down pass rush specialist. Perhaps one other option is to really give Caldwell a real look at 5T -- he has impressive agility and perhaps an extra step off the ball would give him an edge for a guy his size with his explosive potential. He had good success as a pass rusher before he was moved to NT in his last year in college, and I'm not sure where else he'd be useful in a rotation otherwise as an NT/DT given that they have Tart, Tito and Hand ahead of him, potentially.

Herbert is an established franchise QB, one of the best in the NFL, of course we'd be fucked if he got hurt, what the heck does that have to do with whether or not Lance merits back up status and a roster spot? If the Chargers cut Lance there is going to be a few teams offering him another shot at a starting position after the way he's looked this preseason...He's been a very nice addition to the roster at his position and he's proven himself worth keeping...
Stick has played better than Lance has.....and I'm not a Stick fan but he has done pretty good with ATL so far. And Stick isnt starting for anyone.
He is in the same boat as Stick has been. A #3 trying to be a #2 except he was way over drafted.
So sure we will keep him. Maybe keep all three? No idea.

Lance has looked surprisingly good, thru bad play calling, bad O-line play, dropped passes by receivers, playing with a sprained and bruised throwing hand, and thru all of it he's looked poised, mature, steady, and consistent, he's managed long drives, and never looked rattled. He's gotten what he could without forcing passes, he's also looked dynamic running the ball, and he's protected the ball and given his team a chance to win...he also signed a super cheap team friendly deal in the 2 mil range while Zach Wilson got like 4x as much and both drafted same draft one pick apart and I have no qualms saying that Lance has been every bit as good as Wilson and maybe even better since both signed during free agency, Lance wishes he had the play calling that Zach Wilson has in Miami...
BTW, what would the Chiefs or Bills look like without Mahomes or Allen?Last edited by Fouts2herbert; 08-17-2025, 01:59 AM."The author assumes no responsibility or liability for any errors or omissions in the content of this post. The way Lance has looked there is no way that Kellen Moore wouldn't rather have him as an option right now over anything he has over there...The Jets, The Browns, there are teams out there that might give him a shot after what he's shown if not at starting perhaps as the primary backup...not sure what we're arguing here, if Lance is fighting for the #3 spot then I think he's already looked better than any guy fighting for that spot in a good long while, at least the last 6 years, he's also a fantastic fit for the type of offense that Harbuagh wants to run...honestly I don't see how Lance hasn't already secured the #3 spot behind Herbert and Heinecki...we could do worse at emergency QB, we have in the recent past for sure..."The author assumes no responsibility or liability for any errors or omissions in the content of this post.
