Actually surprised a draft pick was given up for a guy who could have been a cut

Tend to agree with you, but i'll tell you this:

Houston spent two 2nd round picks on OT the last few years, and in addition went out and got Cam Robinson.
They are going with 3 guys this year.

But yeah, three different teams, each year heading elsewhere .... not encouraging.

I hope your point is not a desire that the Chargers had signed that slob from KC, Elos.

Maybe he is a better fit for the scheme we run?

Yes, he’s a good fit for the Sieve Squad Scheme which has more holes than a colander, with pass rushers pouring through like water.

The board can call me negative but I simply don't believe this is the best lineman Hortiz could have brought in here. Joe should watch what Roseman has been doing with his NFL best O line the last 2 days. He never stops making it better. Which is the same thing Hortiz does with every other position group, he just hasnt figured out the o llne so far in his tenure as GM
Who else did Joe Hortiz have access to, that he could have brought it, instead of Deculus?

George Fant was signed by Washington after Hortiz signed Sharpe

Dalton Risner was signed yesterday by the Bengals - granted, he is more OG than OT

I realize the points are valid about Houston having a poor OL so how will he be an upgrade. Well the bar is pretty low. Still hoping for one more on the Oline but at least today, knowing who ISN"T on the 53 - -good with the top 8

and basically with preparations starting today or tomorrow with the travel - probably going to ride with these 8

There were guys on waivers with better careers and numbers Deculus

Its a fair point that its tough out there, but it flippantly whitewashes over the fact that a few other teams have added some OL talent. Why not us, eh? Why do we need to be part of the 27 that didn't and not part of the 5 that did? (numbers are made up for illustration, don't quote me).

"cuz its hard!" pfft, whatever. Is Chef Joe missing a recipe in his cookbook?

I have to think that may have been a factor to trade for Deck...also, I mentioned in a previous post that it's possible one of the Bolt coaches may know him from a previous team...maybe they think Deck's skills aren't being optimized properly...otherwise they wouldn't have given up a 7th rounder...there must have been some intel that if he was getting cut that there were other teams ahead of us in FA who had Austin targeted...

I don't see Joe Hortiz as a guy who'd waste future 7th round pick on a guy that he thinks has a next-to-zero chance of being useful.

Joe has also shown the ability to identify particular traits in players that allow them to be good at the kinds of things the Bolts do scheme-wise.

So I'm inclined to believe that the acquisition of Deculus is a better move than it appears to be on the surface. We'll certainly find out soon enough.

                          Agree about Hortiz.
He's big and tough. Deculus is. That's a good start.
