Actually, I'm suggesting we stay balanced. With Dissley, you can run or pass block. I'm not really scared of Dana or Karlaftis. One of them will be eliminated vs Alt on his side. If Pip can defeat Dana or Karlaftis by himself... great. Have Dissley go dig out a LB in the run game. Drop Dana back into coverage...? I'll take the give-me dump-off to Dissley for 7 yards.Originally posted by powderblueboy View Post
That's putting a lot of emphasis in your game plan on taking away Mike Dana and George Karlaftis ..... is it worth it?
I'd go back and check on how Pip faired against the Chiefs from 2023 in pass pro.
Use Dissley there and Spags just has Dana dropping back in coverage and they send a blitzer on the other side.
Sure, occasionally they'll line up Chris Jones there .... send your back out to chip.
Its the exotic blitzes and Chris Jones that have killed the Chargers, even going back to the days of Bob Sutton.
Don't focus on the very average Dana/Karlaftis duo.
When the chips are down and its a big play, Spags always dials up the blitz .... expect it.
If we're worried about exotic bliztes, put Disslet in motion and him him body guard Herbert... along with those good pass protecting RB's. I feel much better about Dissley doing that than Conklin. The best way to beat exotic blitzes are dump-offs into the flat. The RB's have the talent for that... Dissley has the talent for that. Flare them each out to opposite sides. Let the Chiefs try and defend that. Multiple options with Dissley in the line-up. Do I want us to ignore Conklin and/or Gadsden...? Not at all. We have a lot of new pieces to work in... use them all. We are now multiple on offense.Protect the QB

I need to see it, also. But unlike you, I expect it to happen... based on what I see (roster-wise) right now.Originally posted by CanadianBoltFan View Post
Sure I think they are due and I think we can beat them. Just need to actually see it, as i have heard all the same stuff before every Chief game the last few years.
You keep bringing up Bozeman in 2021, it is 2025. He has played poorly the last 2 seasons in a row, You want to bring up not using the past? with Bozeman you are hoping for 4 years ago.
Its not just me btw...every worthwhile source points to our offensive line as the big concern for the Chargers. Chiefs have o line concerns too. The difference is Reid/Mahomes have demonstrated considerably better the ability to rise up to the moment, overcome and get it done. Our guys need to prove they can do that ina big game.
Hoping it starts Friday!
I only bring up Bozeman's 2021 because you seem intent on looking back... to predict the future.Protect the QB

they make mistakes/oversights as well…. I can think of many instances where the HC is not a personnel guy, and even vice versa.Originally posted by YAC View Post
I'm very much uncertain about this, and therefore must gently disagree.- One of the two rookie receiver could rapidly ascend above old-man Keenan. Not saying it will happen but very much could.
- Conklin is far less a blocker than Fisk and a notable inferior blocker to Dissley. He's also less mobile than Gadsen.
my thought is that this game isn’t about developing our younger talent or competing for anything, it’s about using our resources optimally.
for myself, and especially earlier on in the game, am gonna stick w/guys that know NFL football and are not gonna be distracted.
this game is not gonna be too big for Conklin, and he can both block and catch just fine.
not ready to play rookie football until it’s time.ED Matayo Uiagalelei, LB CJ Allen, DT Dontay Corleone, OC Iapani Laloulu, CB Domani Jackson, LB TeitumTuioti, LB Raylen Wilson, TE Brett Norfleet, OG Earnest Greene III, LB Eric Gentry, WR J. Michael Sturdivant

LOL! How disappointed I'll be doesn't come to mind. Plenty of time for that if it actually happens. Actually? I'll probably be angry like when Marty's Chargers lost to NE through repeated player errors that they wouldn't normally make.Originally posted by CanadianBoltFan View Post
Yup, me and a whole lot of other Charger fans will be disappointed if we lost to the Chiefs for the 8th time in a row when they look beatable.

I think we have a good shot to win. I have just learned not to expect anything against the Chiefs.Originally posted by Boltnut View Post

Sure would be be nice if Herbert rises up and dominates, makes a statement against Mahomes in a big game and silences a few haters in week 1.

Your talking Herbert of 3-5 years ago. Last year our passing game was not up to snuff. Lack of receiving options and poor O line play were the main culprits.Originally posted by Velo View PostWhen you game plan an NFL defense, you prioritize taking away the thing the opposing offense does best. For the Chargers' that is Herbert and the passing game. The Chargers' run game hasn't been good for years, opposing DC's don't prioritize stopping the run against the Chargers over stopping Herbert and the passing game. Defending Herbert and the Chargers' passing game will still be Spagnolo's top priority for the Brazil game. The Chargers' running attack has to take advantage of that. I'm not saying the Chiefs' defense won't be ready to defend the run, they will be, but until the Chargers' running game proves itself to be dominant, defending Herbert will still be the top priority.
The Chiefs will game plan to stop our run game, because if they don't they will be toast. Last year we averaged 2.29 ypc and 3.7 ypc respectively and lost
both close games. We gained 197 yards through the air in game 1 and 202 yards in game 2. Neither effort was enough to beat the Chiefs. So I respectfully
disagree with you. If we can effectively run the ball we likely win this game. If Harris is able to play that will be a big plus.
QJ is likely out. That leaves Ladd and Allen as the go to guys. I watched
all of the preseason games. Tre Harris and the other WRs do not get separation. We have 4 TE but none are top tier receivers. Due to our O line
issues we may be running more 2 TE sets than normal. In other words our passing game is questionable.
