They “talked” about the game. Actually didnt - they washed Andy and Patrick’s balls with vague sticky tongue baths without saying anything specific and assuming KC is AFC King and SB contender until proven otherwise. Typical of the lazy risk-averse national press. Didn’t say 3 sentences about anything regarding the Chargers team or changes except noting the name Harbaugh in passing. Spent the second half of their game analysis on Taylor Swift. The most non-analytical analysis of a game I’ve heard in a long time, disappointed in Ryan’s lack of any actual analysis of either team’s changes, strengths, weaknesses. Just the lazy “Andy and Patrick know how to handle pressure” shit. Which is true as far as it goes, but again - very shallow and lazy work,

Mentioned Crime dawg McGruff - noted there is no ill words or anything and no indications that he wouldn’t play.

i hope Charger players constantly hear all of this, and how could they not … motivation becomes an immovable mountain.
This is good news. The more the Chiefs and Broncos are hyped and the Bolts are dismissed or dissed, the better.

yeah, dunno…. personally would have Haskins in early to block, and if they’re aggressive, spring that shovel pass on ‘em, or a simple screen, and then ease in Omarion, Ronnie Harmon style…. if we’re good quarter four, then let him go Natrone on ‘em ?? !!

Anyone think we’re not running the ball?

In an interview with Chiefs Digest's Matt Derrick, Veach admitted, "That's just a position that we're kind of hyper-focused on and trying to get that competition better and get more consistency."

Translation: The guys we entered training camp with weren't giving us the results we hoped for.

The Chiefs let Tershawn Wharton and Derrick Nnadi walk in free agency this offseason and replaced them with free agent Jerry Tillery and draft pick Omarr Norman-Lott. Tillery has been pretty quiet throughout camp and the preseason, and Norman-Lott has been limited by injuries after getting some early run with the first-string defense.

If Veach felt great about those two additions being reliable, starting-caliber pieces of the Chiefs' defense, he wouldn't be "hyper-focused" on "trying to get that competition better and get more consistency." The fact that so far his only solution is to replace Mike Pennel with Derrick Nnadi and sign a couple of former third-round busts to the practice squad doesn't inspire a lot of confidence.

The Pennel-for-Nnadi move is especially head-scratching. Yes, Nnadi is a younger player and has experience in KC's system, but the Chiefs liked Pennel better last season. How do we know that? Because they played him more often (320 snaps to 221). Maybe Nnadi wasn't 100% last season and we just didn't know it, but it's hard to sell Nnadi as an upgrade over what they got from Pennel last season when KC's actions show they liked Pennel better. Pro Football Focus agreed, giving Pennel a 62.4 grade vs. the run compared to a 45.7 for Nnadi.

Tillery was often seen as a replacement for Wharton with his tall and slender build. Most thought Omarr Norman-Lott was a pass-rushing addition as well, playing at a lighter weight as a rotational rusher in college. However, KC apparently had him bulk up before camp, but never really got to see how well that would work because of nagging injuries limiting him.

So now the Chiefs enter Week 1 of the regular season with Chris Jones and a cast of question marks at defensive tackle.

Can Derrick Nnadi even be an average run defender to pair with Jones on early downs and short-yardage situations? Can Jerry Tillery give them some pass-rush upside next to Jones on passing downs? Can Omarr Norman-Lott stay healthy enough and be effective at a higher weight? Can the Chiefs get anything out of a pair of former third-round busts?
Now, if you excuse me, I have some Charger memories to suppress.
          Let’s win one for Mack.

I think Roman's playbook will incorporate plays that use Hampton's existing skills. To me, it looks like Hampton can do damage on shovel passes... and that fits what Roman wants to do... move vertically, not horizontally.

People are getting too hung up on Roman's offense when it was designed for Kapernick and/or Lamar Jackson years before.

This offense will be balanced. Power-gap-counter blocking with physical running backs hitting the gap and fighting for yards-after-contact. The running game will be established early. It sets up the play-action passing game. They will try to hit receivers deep when it's there. QJ, Harris, and KLS will stretch defenses vertically... KA, Ladd, and TE's will run shorter-to-midrange routes Herbie will look for them when protections break down. Herbert's understanding of defenses and making quick reads will get better this year... only year 2 of Roman's offense. The offense was hampered by Herbert's immobility last year and was short on playmakers. Will they be able to hit deep passes when Pipkins will need help...? We'll see. More/better playmakers are now on board... this will open up the playbook.

If your satisfaction can only be met with more screens and outlet passes... then I think you've missed the point and will only be disappointed.

In the end, I believe Dissley may offer you some relief. His main objective will be run-blocking. He will also be tasked with aiding Pipkins in pass protection on play-action passes. I'm sure Roman will be looking to see how much attention Dissley gets. When the time is right, I expect Dissley to get an occasional screen in the flat if defenses have forgotten about him. The offense will be multiple this year. I expect Roman to move the pocket more this year, too. There were a lot things the health/depth of the roster just didn't allow him to do.

This is why I want the give this first game to the Chiefs, its better to start slow and finish strong, that will also take whatever hype or self expectation pressure that we might have... I dont want a perfect season anyway.
