I wish we had OL reinforcements but even bad teams aren't going to part with good OL as they are still building blocks for their future.Originally posted by charger1993 View Posthe doesnt play like he has 4.3 speed like posted above, put on the tape and you'll routinely see him kinda just jogging as if he gave up on the play but ends up making the tackle cuz the rb gets pushed to him. idk maybe he can put something together, still wish this was a oline trade

Bringing stuff from the other thread.
Well its almost the offseason for the NFL. And we have a lot of cap stuff the maneuver. Since there is a minor roster build discussion happening in the draft forum...i will move those posts to this thread. Much of that thread is 2022 so it goes back to far. But the time stamps in this thread...eventhough im starting it today..

The 5th year and franchise tags are set by position group, not by his actual position. Since C get paid a lot less than OT, it is not a good deal for the Ravens.Originally posted by Boltx View Post
Isn't Linderbaum one of the top rated centers in the league? I think he's a FA next year, just assumed Baltimore would franchise him?
The 5th year option for Linderbaum would reset the C market and make him the highest paid C by a fair margin. I haven't looked at the franchise tags, but that would probably be even worse for them.
They will sign a deal long before he becomes a FA. IOL always do.
This next offseason will be another weak FA class with all the really serious guys to sign being signed long before the FA market opens. The guys with warts are signing huge deals, any guy who is solid is going to be paid near the top of the market. And the demand on OL is so great that anyone like that will get the money.
If we want OL help (real help) we will have to draft and develop it.

they didn't exercise his option because he'd be paid as a top OT. Not sure if franchising puts him in that same overall OL top salary, or narrows it to just OCs. Top OTs make $10M+ more than top OCs. They stated interest to resign him and will get first shot but if they don't franchise him he's free to chat with any team after the tampering period ends.Originally posted by Boltx View Post

Although this move for Oweh was for the defense, it proves that Hortiz and Harbaugh will make a move if there is one worth making. They're not going to just sit there and let the problem persist if they can do something about it. The reality is that we're not going to receive a quality offensive lineman in a trade from anyone. I don't know why that's so difficult for some to understand.

I want to channel my inner Staley and express myself and just say
THANK YOU ALOHI
You were my favorite pick from that draft class and represented our bolts well on and off the field by all accounts.
I admire you're ability to raise your game above your physical limitations as evidence by beating out every competition Lynn and Staley threw at your (Adderley comes to mind).
You deserved your second contract here and I wish you health and prosperity in Baltimore in the future.
It's always a good feeling rooting for good people and you sir are good people.

Chargers star Derwin James’ final message to Alohi Gilman after Ravens trade - Yahoo Sports https://share.google/UNYhxqI9FvyfsABua
The post Chargers star Derwin James’ final message to Alohi Gilman after Ravens trade appeared first on ClutchPoints.
The Los Angeles Chargers locker room felt the impact of change this week as safety Derwin James offered an emotional farewell to longtime teammate Alohi Gilman, who was traded to the Baltimore Ravens. The Chargers’ defensive captain has always been the voice of unity on and off the field, and his reaction showed why he remains the emotional core of the franchise.

The Los Angeles Times’s Benjamin Royer shared James’ remarks on X (formerly known as Twitter) after Thursday’s practice, highlighting the Chargers star’s thoughtful message to his longtime teammate following the trade to Baltimore.
“I talked to him, told him how much I loved him. He told me the same thing — thankful for everything. And that’s always my brother, man, my brother, nothing but love and respect for him.”
The partnership between James and Gilman has been one of the Chargers’ most stable and respected tandems in recent years. Together, they anchored a top-tier secondary in 2025 built on chemistry, communication, and toughness. The move to Baltimore closes a six-year chapter that defined leadership and accountability within the Bolts defense.
The Gilman trade was finalized Tuesday, sending the veteran safety and a 2026 fifth-round pick to the Ravens in exchange for outside linebacker Odafe Oweh and a future seventh-round selection. The move addressed the Chargers’ need for pass-rush depth following Khalil Mack’s elbow injury, while also allowing the safety to reunite with former teammates Kyle Hamilton and Kyle Van Noy in Baltimore, both of whom share his defensive mindset and veteran leadership.

For the Chargers defense, the three-time All-Pro’s reaction spoke volumes. James wasn’t focused on statistics or schemes — his message was about brotherhood. Gilman’s professionalism and steady presence set a tone teammates respected, and his departure leaves both an emotional and strategic void in Los Angeles.
Still, James’ words reflected optimism as much as sentiment. The Chargers now move forward with renewed purpose, ready to integrate Oweh and elevate younger safeties into larger roles. For James, the focus remains clear that family doesn’t end with a trade — it simply extends across locker rooms.
