It happens a lot. A player like Murphy is an unexpected standout in the preseason and becomes a fan favorite, but it's a mirage because he's playing against PS talent, and most often it doesn't transfer to real NFL games. Rocket Sanders is another one. He's still on the Browns' roster, but after giving him 3 carries in week 1 they have not activated Sanders for a single game since.

Remember Dalevon Campbell, the big, fast WR who looked like a stud in the preseason? Like Sanders he was plucked when the Chargers waived him August. He was rostered in Carolina, but was active for only two games, he played 9 offensive snaps and had zero targets. He was waived with an injury settlement (hamstring) last Friday and the Chargers signed him to the PS 3 days ago.

I don't think it means Murphy is a mirage necessarily. It could be that, as many inexperienced players go, that he needs more seasoning to reach his potential.

Murphy has been in the league since 2023.

In anticipation of Hines maybe, possibly playing tomorrow, here are his highlights from 2021-22. He looks to me like Austin Ekeler, same size, possess Ekeler's burst. Catches a lot of passes out of the backfield.

I don't see 30pts as the magic number for offense.
I think 23Pts is the number they need to get to. If they can find a way to get there, I think that can be enough. Sure they may need 24 or 27 or 30, but the magic number is 23 because I think the defense is solid enough to hold Colts to 20pts.

I would agree with you if I could see the Chargers being able to stop the RB or QB from running?..... and if we had an OL that could allow Herbert to pass the ball for 300+ yards!...

We will not be able to run in this game.... last week we played the only team worse at run defense than we are....and the colts are pretty dsrn good on defense...at least front 7....
This game will be about if Herbert can get the ball off very quickly!.... and if Roman will actually throw ball into the endzone once we are in redzone, inastead of 3 runs or dump off passes and a FG attempt.

Indy will be the toughest opponent we have played this season!

KC is quickly starting to play the best football in NFL and are likely the best NFL team with the best OC(reid) and DC.

Chargers will need to play their best game of the year to beat Indy. We will have to do 3 things we have not done l;ately: stop the run, contain the QB from running, and scoring TD's instead of settling on FG's

Much better pass blocker (ekler was not good at this)

I can believe that.... my best friend is a 49ers fan and told me that Kittle has been practicing for weeks but has not played yet.... maybe tomorrow..... Practice ready is not game ready... lol

Yeah, this seems more realistic. Perry and Mack can come back and be on snap counts. Hard to do that with a LT.

My sympathies. Personally, I don't take it personally. We need to play clean ball, no penalties. Get everyone to the ball on run D. Challenge their pass D and finish drives with 7.

If it's any consolation I do think they will win and the worm has turned but there is still that little damaged part me of the thinks this could be a blowout.

I do agree with your assessment, they just need to clean up a few things and keep chipping away.
