Just got back from the game and read the game thread on the drive home. Some truly head scratching takes on Herbert's play. Horrible interception to start, but under relentless pressure all game long and he willed the team to win. The comments about him being a statue and he should run more like Mahomes does ignore the reality of how much each runs. Herbert has 46 rushes on the year including today. Mahomes has 46 rushes on the year through halftime of his game. Seems about the same to me... He was sacked 6 times and hit 11 others. The problem is the OL, not Herbert's decision making. The notion that he can take off and scramble every play isn't realistic as no OC is going to want to cut the field in half. A valid criticism of the O is why not more short passes, but that is on Roman. Herbert isn't perfect but we'd have 1 or 2 wins with most QBs in the league.

Easy part of the schedule is over, so yes, if this is the OL situation moving forward then we are cooked.Originally posted by Berserker View PostThis season is not done by a long shot, folks. Herbert will always keep us in the game. How many of you predicted the Steelers, Vikings, and Panthers would all win? Every week is different, and any week we could beat any team. Looking forward to getting Hampton back.
The games against the Commanders and Colts are a preview of what happens when we face competent teams with good QB play and even the slightest semblance of a pass rush.ESPN Screename: GoBolts02

Looks to me like he's walking it off.
No joke, jamrock.
I like the body language.
Walking briskly.
'Tis but a scratch.
But our problem right now is less the OTs and more the IOL pressure. Sarrell is getting abused a bit and the Bozeman/Sarrell combo is not ideal.

How many sacks do you think Watt, Highsmith and our good friend Heyward will get next weekOriginally posted by Boltx View Post

I’m not ready to give up on Ficken after a bad year. He’s been great since 2022 otherwise. Maybe we need to actually get him some better pieces?Originally posted by dmac_bolt View PostDD doesnt hit returns hard and fast like he used to. I think its the more fucked up blocking that Ficken is getting the ST unit to provide in front of him.
I don’t get what happened to Ficken. Our backups play better when on O or D, but he gets much less from them on ST. He’s clueless how to get either a block or a tackle in the new KO rules.

There are a few posters who only show up when the Chargers are experiencing adversity and trash Herbert, they are nothing, 99 percent of the board sees the reality, as you lay it out here.Originally posted by richpjr View PostJust got back from the game and read the game thread on the drive home. Ficken is one of the best if not the best ST coach in the league. One thing casual fans don't understand that players come and go from special teams based on the needs of the offense and defense. When you lose a good ST player and he's replaced by a new guy it affects ST performance.Originally posted by Xenos View Post

Don’t dismiss valid criticism of underperforming ST play by calling us casual fans that don’t understand. That is weak deflection. You are just as casual as most of us here.Originally posted by Velo View Post

The Chargers back half of the roster has better players than it has had in decades. Don’t blame Joe for Ficken’s deficiency.Justin Herbert is Elite. Ride or Die ...
