Losing Harris AND Hampton in a few weeks was tragic and we somehow still managed to pull out some wins. I like the fight we have despite the odds being against us with a patchwork o-line.Originally posted by jamrock View Post
Maddening. The Alt injuries have been freakish and unrelated to conditioning. Hampton's was likely bizarre. But this has been repeated throughout the 2000's. Bad luck? Cursed? Who knows but it sure seems to happen to us more than others. And at the most important positions

Once we can solve the O-line injury riddle and heal from those injuries we suddenly look like a different team. The offense is working despite the o-line injuries and substitute players. If we can stop the huge run plays we've been gashed in several games, we're looking pretty good. Seems we didn't have as many unnecessary penalties other than the taunting one yesterday.Originally posted by dmac_bolt View Post
We didn't get beat
Every week there are games that are upsets, games that are very close that shouldn't be, and blowouts that should have been close. It is a TPB tradition to over-state the meaning of each individual data point, nothing new here. Given our injury accumulation, we need to play well to win against any NFL team in every game. Yesterday was a game that many prior Charger teams would lose. Just this week
Panthers beat the Pack
Steelers beat the Colts
Vikings beat the Lions
Jags needed OT and a break to beat LVR
DEN barely survived Texans
Chiefs got blown off the field in prime time
We spotted the Titans 14 and won by 7, sealing the victory with a multi-first down final drive to take a knee. We dominated them in every stat except "points gifted for no fucking reason".
As for OL - For the most part, the draft board didn't fall well to draft an IOL player on Days 1 and 2. It was a weak IOL draft. Rd3 could be the one to argue with, but only in hindsight. And we also had need at DT and I think we got a pretty good one there. Trenchers got a trencher, just on the other side of the ball.
Omarion is a stud, he will be an elite RB for us for years to come imo. He'll be back after our bye and remind everyone why he was a great pick again.
T Harris is also a future stud but he was drafted as much for insurance as for today. Coaches bet on longshots for WR and TE in '24 and left the team without weapons. They were determined to not make that mistake again. Nobody knew QJ would emerge for sure. Nobody with a brain would expect Mdub to play an entire season - in fact he didn't make it to camp. Nobody anticipated they'd then sign Slayer to a team-friendly deal. Lots of reasons why taking WR insurance in Rd2 was a good selection, add in the fact that good WRs are one of the highest cost FA positions to buy on the FA market. Of course now that it is the only position group that hasn't suffered major injury - it looks luxury more than necessity - again its 100% in hindsight.
For TE, they also took out insurance by signing Conklin AND drafting OG. Fortunately they took out the OG insurance as Conklin has been a flop. We are up to about 4 wins that might have been a loss without OG.
We are scared today about OT. They planned the year with two pro-bowl level OTs and two decent swing OTs in reserve (Pipkins and Salyer). Folks here argued to cut or trade Pipkins. Nobody here was clamoring to draft an OT on Day 1 or 2 - which is now what everyone is fretting about. A notable and well-respected TPB contingent spent just the last week debating that Slater doesn't need to come back even.
Hindsight makes guys super brilliant at times. I wish I could invest my money every day based on stock prices yesterday - I'd be so fucking rich ...

I remember how shocked I was when I first learned Kroenke was going to install turf in Los Angeles. So incredibly weak, just .... unbelievable. In LA.Originally posted by Air Coryell 84 View Post
i agree. There's no reason we can't have a grass field at Sofi. I'm sure the Rams would prefer that as well as the Chargers.Justin Herbert is Elite. Ride or Die ...

You keep Pipkins at RT at this point. Deculus is not even worth talking about.Originally posted by Boltjolt View Post
Didn't say that's what I wanted but we are running out of OTs. You want Pip there or Deculus? Pick your poison.
Till we make a trade, we are very limited. Hart went down too

His ass is on skates every snap. Even with help, he is crapolla, particularly when he's playing on the left. Maybe on the right side, he's a bit better, but still not someone you want out there.Originally posted by Air Coryell 84 View Post
I hope and pray that Deculus can go from RiDeculus to Fantakulus

You mean Trey Lance?Originally posted by CanadianBoltFan View PostWhere is the dude that was complaining all game yesterday everything is Herbert's fault and that Herbert doesn't run?
Just thought I would mention that Herbert has more rushing yards with 305 than any other QB in the NFL.

How in the he'll did the refs not even penalize Day for that nevermind eject him from the game; suspend him from playing several weeks and fine him appropriately? Obviously deliberate. Same thing back in that Broncos game with that dude with the long afro that was trying to jack QJs leg when he was totally out of bounds? No call, no ejection, no fine.Originally posted by Topcat View PostDirty Titan Joseph-Day didn't even try to sack Herbie...went for Alt instead:

QJ noticeably limping back on the field after #9 Talanoa Hufanga literally tried to rip his leg out of the socket. Ref is right there, but nothing to see... no flag, no nothing. Did Sean Payton pay off the refs to ignore the dirty play??? After looking at that picture of the ref right there,I was surprised he didn't call a personal foul on QJ for trying to dislocate Hufanga's hand with his leg 😂😂😂
