i can go back and look, but i think SD could have ran the clock down to 2 or 3 seconds and then kicked. i think Kelly was stopping the clock, in hopes that if Novak missed, he could throw a deep ball (before the end of the game). They didn't throw the hail mary because we made it. Had Novak missed they had 5 seconds (approx) to run one play.

No coach is going to kick it on 1st down if he can run more plays. Kelly just gave us time.

We ran Woodhead twice and Rivers kind of fell down in the middle of the field on the third play. It doesn't happen much but we had already fumbled 3 times in the game and it only cost them 2 yards so while a very long shot, why not try it?

No it's not different. A fumble is a fumble is a fumble. The chances are small that it will happen, especially if Mathews isn't touching it, but it has happened before. You know, like against the Chiefs. Hence me mentioning the Chiefs.
