Novak is not above average. His career numbers are below average. Last year he made all of 6 FGs longer than 40 yards and was only 2-4 from over 50 yards. His "improved numbers" are over a limited sample size (all of 20 FG attempts last year, the vast majority of which were under 40 yards)--no way he makes 90% over a full season this year. He simply isn't that accurate.
In addition, Novak sucks on kickoffs. He does not elevate his kickoffs or drive them deep. I can't recall the last opponent we played that had a worse kicker on kickoffs, but it has been a while.
Further, Telesco signed Novak to a four year contract. Novak is not cheap at all. This was a flat out terrible signing. We could get a good young kicker for about one-third of the Novak's salary.
And the Texans won today, so their kicker didn't cost them anything.

As a SD Charger (2011-2013) Novak has made 49/58 FG's for an average of 84.4% with 30 of his makes being from beyond 40 yards. It makes absolutely no sense to worry about how he kicked more than three years ago for other teams. Novak has definitely been an "above average" kicker.Last edited by SFW; 09-15-2013, 05:19 PM.1) Jason Verrett (CB) TCU

1. Justin Tucker (90.183%), 2. Harrison Butker (89.140%), 3. Eddy Pineiro (89.000%), 4. Younghoe Koo (88.506%), 5. Daniel Carlson (88.021%),
Considering there are only 37 kickers that have achieved that in their careers, I'm OK if he's "below average." Maybe do your research before popping off. 80% would be fantastic.
He was at 79.4 in 2011. 90% last year. He's clearly an above average kicker right now in the league.
