I agree with your succinct bottom line, and one of which being a quality starting Edge.

However the elephant sucking up all the oxygen in the room is Mike McDaniel who was the Big Kahuna the Chargers landed in the off season.

O’Leary is like an apprentice in comparison and Harbaugh isn’t going to show the same deference by calling him the HEAD COACH of anything.

I would suspect it’s an order of magnitude harder for O’Leary to get on Hortiz’s appointment calendar than it is for McDaniel and I’ve yet to see O’Leary sitting next to Harbaugh at a sporting event.

That’s a lot of words trying to say it’s easy to understand why the organization will have a bias towards catering to McDaniels needs versus O’Leary’s this offseason.

I suspect that McD vs O'Leary in the draft reflects a great deal of change in the offensive system from Greg Roman and very little change in system from Minter to O'Leary.
      We want to win.
The D was very good in a system O'Leary was an assistant in,and Hortiz found players for previously. The D doesn't need a lot of change, just reinforcements to what we do.
The Offense was struggling to be average in 2025 under Roman. Granted widespread injuries at OL and RB were crippling. Roman's gone, his IOL is gone and we're building a new offense for McDaniel.
It's all about putting a successful Offense, Defense and Special teams on the field.
The Chargers intend not only to reach the playoffs this year, but to win some games. preferably a Super Bowl.
Nobody's kissing McD's ass. We just want his '26 Chargers offense to dominate opponents.Same for O'Leary's defense and Ficken's Special Teams.
      It takes a team. Everybody.
