POLL: Who Will be the Starter at LG?

Its tricky with Slaughter - because if he is your starting LG - who is back up OC - would it be Strommer than. Or would Slaughter slide over and like Awosike slide into LG.
I only bring that up as the QB/Center dynamic is so important with snap count, line calls, etc. So Slaughter would have to be doubly prepared each week

Top 10 C Biadasz isn't exactly fragile. I think that's the plan. Slaughter has taken 1st team reps at C. It allows us to go with 8 OL and have depth elsewhere.
Slaughter is pretty sharp. We didn't draft him in 2nd to sit on the bench for a few years.

OL depth is so important to have. Even if one or two players are inactive every week. Good OL will get snatched up and left with scraps if there are injuries
Other positions can be sacrificed over OL depth. Especially if Slater might need to be managed over the season with playing time

Especially if they are good players. As the Chargers saw last year, having to make trades -- if you have good ones, and they are better than players like Deculus, Hart, etc - keep them all.
If inactive - so be it.

At OL, we don't dress many. No one does. That reduces likelihood of poaching of those we stash. Anyone others grab would have to be added to their roster. We are taking a good look at the young ones. We know what Penning, Pipkins offer. The squeeze is on.

Add in Matlock , the logjam at WR, S, LB and something has to give. I believe that will involve holding our breath at OL. Then again, your thinking is sound regarding stockpiling fatties.

Regarding Slater, Popper had a nugget today. Years ago, Victor Cruz, NYG WR tore his patella tendon too. There was a lingering calf issue on his good leg. Rashawn must be diligent. My good leg is usually sore. Overcompensation is a thing, and I can vouch.

I doubt it.Just guessing what Hortiz, Jim, McDaniel, O'Leary, Ficken agree on but 10 OL is a lot We need starters and depth across the roster.

I think this is why they played Slaughter at center so much early in camp. He's gotta be the back-up center. I doubt Spomer and/or Kaltenburger are one of the 10 best OL on the team.

At the same moment, if Slaughter can beat Kayode, Taylor, Pip (whoever else) at LG... then you should start him at LG. The best 5 should be starting. Is that a tall order (starting LG and backup center)...? Hell yeah. Can Slaughter handle it...? We'll see. He was drafted for his intelligence and athletic fit for McD's scheme. That's why he was drafted in the 2nd round.

Yup, I was listening to the Bleav podcast and Matt "Money" said the same thing that Kayode struggled pretty badly in that session!

Penning being a former 1st round pick, albeit and sadly a lousy OLineman due to the often stated circumstances, will still be picked up by some team if waived outright or place on the PS, specially when the Chargers are paying his salary as mentioned. We gave up a 6th for him plus the salary so it would be prudent to try to get something for Penning if he does not pan out in coach Berry's plans.

Trade him for a conditional 7th rounder...in 2030...
