Rivers is better than his old self:

Philip Rivers connected on nine of 11 throws deeper than 10 yards downfield for three touchdowns Sunday. Four Chargers had multiple catches on those throws, something the team never did last year.

This. It's as if he was unshakled from 6 years of bondage.

not just 6 years...7. marty making him a game manager was almost as dumb as what norv did. I know he was a younger player back then but marty limited him like he was a rookie

Rivers did enjoy success under Norv early on, but now you gotta wonder if it was in spite of and not because of Norv.
It will always be somewhat of a mystery. When Norv was OC in SF for a year I think he worked wonders with Alex Smith, if memory serves. So it's not as if the guy can't coach QBs. But I maintain it was his steadfast devotion to his outdated system, never taking personal responsibility, never changing things up or innovating (like some teams in the leauge), and certainly NEVER trusting his QBs to make decisions at the LOS, that was his ultimate downfall. He was just way too stubborn and unyielding to be successful as a head coach. Too bad several players wasted their prime years with him at the helm. Good riddance.

7-8 years is an eternity in the NFL. Things change so much and so fast and if you become stagnant like Norv, the game will quickly pass you by.

@PFF: No QB has got rid of the ball as quickly as Stafford. Average time to throw of 2.24 seconds. 2nd P.Manning (2.35) & 3rd Rivers (2.39).

Rivers is calling the plays at the line, he knows what he wants to do pre snap. With the makeshift line, that's huge.

Haha I was waiting for this gif to come out.

Chargers QB Philip Rivers hasn’t just “returned to form” after a few down years, he has returned as a different player altogether. He’s now a better player than he’s ever been, and it’s truly special to watch.
