I think it was foolish to take the penalty and give the Raiders a free play . Huge tactical error. Bolts had all the momentum, they likely punt in that situation, if not make them put that on the line. They go for it on 4th down and miss they give us a short field in a one score game while our offense is moving and we have all the momentum. 3rd and 14 gives them a free play, of course they are going to try and convert that, why give them that chance? They were out of field goal range and McCoy gave them a free play to get closer instead of forcing them to gamble and go for it. Conceding you can't stop them on 4th and 1, and giving them a free play because your so scared you can't stop them and are afraid to even give them the opportunity to gamble and go for it, is chicken shit.
4th and 1 vs 3rd and 14

But its all moot on the very real chance that they punt. I highly doubt they go for it, they wouldn't want to risk a negative play. Should have at least allowed that possibility instead of being chicken.Last edited by BlazingBolt; 10-07-2013, 12:30 AM.migrated from chargerfans.net then the thenflforum.com then here

I think there was a 100% chance they go for it on 4th down IMO. I don't think we stop a 4th and short. Assuming that I prob take the penalty. That being said, we can't contain a mobile QB to save our ass. We simply have no speed on the D line. Ingram isn't a speed rusher either so he's not going to help.

Even so I think you decline the penalty. It's a two step gamble if you decline. One they have to go for it and two they have to make it for you to lose. Take it and all they have to do is make it for you to lose. Decline and you may win with out even having to make another play. Statistically I think you should decline. Not to mention you are making yourself take the gamble instead of forcing them to make it. Bad strategy to assume all that and make a decision based on that assumption.Last edited by BlazingBolt; 10-07-2013, 12:46 AM.migrated from chargerfans.net then the thenflforum.com then here
