I don't think it's unreasonable to think this team could contend for the playoffs next year or 2015 at the latest. TT needs to continue to hit in the draft and make smart FA choices but how is that any different than any other GM in the league? If you're expecting the roster to be flawless or 2006 status then of course you'll be left waiting but in this day and age neither is realistic.
Look I know Rivers is 31 but he's not done by any stretch of the imagination. You don't dump a proven guy who is actually redeeming himself with his level of play for an unproven draft pick. The Manning/Luck situation last year was different. You continue to build around Rivers and worst case scenario if you do need/want to replace him you have a loaded team ready for the next guy to step into a la Russell Wilson in Seattle.ESPN Screename: GoBolts02

Phillip Rivers may well retire a Charger, wherever the team is located.
Properly coached, with decent talent-the man can win. Right now, we're competing with division opponents
fat with years of high draft choices from nearly a decade of 2-3-4 etc. game winning seasons and the attendant
high draft picks.
In other words, we may be on the short-end of talent for years due to our success from '04-'09.
But-Phillip Rivers won't be traded away; Telesco strikes me as too cautious.San Diego Chargers
