    Trapped in no man's land

Here we sit at 2-3 currently qualifying for 10th overall pick in the draft.

We need to get better to qualify for the playoffs and don't have the depth to do that, and with a few mistakes and underperformances and KC in our division at 5-0 we don't have enough to get over the hump, it is going to take 10 wins, 9-7 won't do it.

On the other hand, Rivers is playing out of his mind, Pagano is making have time adjustments, Fluker, Allen, Woodhead and Gates are all playing well enough to win some more games and go 7-9; which is about the worst a Rivers QB'ed team is ever going to do.

So we are stuck in no man's land, not good enough to go to the playoffs and don't suck enough to get the high draft picks that can make a difference and turn the team around.

And Clowny, exactly the player we need as a 3-4 rush OLB (speed to burn) is screwing up his draft stock up enough to drop down to a top 5 pick.

    No man's land sucks.

    I'd rather go 7-9 than 6-10. I'd rather go 6-10 than 5-11. Etc.

There are good players in every round.

        Just have to find em.

Very, very true. And it sure would be nice to grab a Troy Palomalu instead of a Sammy Davis; or a Clay Matthews instead of a Larry English; or even a John Tate instead of a Ryan Muffews...for a change.

The defense needs a leader; an identity. Weddle, though a star, doesn't have the impact or presence of a Palomalu or Matthews.

Speaking of Tate, he would look really good alongside Woodshed in the backfield. Keep Ronnie Brown around for leadership and depth, add a 4th RB (rookie) and the backfield is set.

Tate is the kind of FA I'd like this team aggressively pursue.

Yep, doesn't matter where you pick. You just need to hit those picks. Fluker and Allen look like hits so far. We'll see about Te'o but if he pans out, then the proof is right there picking at 11.

Going forward at least we are drafting better than the AJ smith era other than the 2004 draft where we traded Sheli Manning and got Rivers, Kaeding, Nick Hardwick, Shaun Phillips and Micheal Turner, the 2005 draft not bad either Merriman, Castillo, Vincent Jackson, and Darren Sproles, after those drafts from 2007-2012 AJ swung and missed on a lot of picks and kept trading our 2nd round pick. TT had a good draft hopefull Te's show worthy of the 2nd round pick.

                  2006-
1 Antonio Cromartie talented a-hole didn't last more than 3 seasons
2 Marcus McNeill-good player who had injury history in college
                  3. Charlie Whithurst- enough said 3rd round????

                  2007-
                  1 Craig Buster Davis -Bust
                  2. Erric Weddle
                  3. Anthony Watter LB-Bust

                  2008-
1 Cason -bust he's a nickel back at best
3 Jacob Hester -could of draft him way later

                  2009-
                  1 Larry English -Bust
                  3. Vasquez turn out to be a good pick

                  2010
                  1. Matthews -enough said
                  3. Donald Butler- solid

                  2011
                  1. Liguet
                  2. Gilchrist-uhh
                  3. Mouton -uhh
                  3 Vincent Brown- good

                  2012
                  1. Melvin Ingram- has the look and skill set have to see what he can do after injury
                  2. Kendall Reyes-solid
                  3. Brandon Taylor ??? have to see what he is like after the injury

You forgot Shareese (sp?) Wright. Wasn't he draft in the same round as VBrown? And bust Mouton was a 2nd round pick, not a third.

What changed is the player developement IMO. How meny DC's and CB coaching changes have we had since 2007?

There's plenty of good midround picks. Off the top of my head that could help, that will probably go 10-20 Kouandijo, Clinton-Dix, Ekepre-Osomethingorother.. The CB from Oregon. So, in general.. I enjoy watching our team win, I don't mind being what we are, in as much as I'm not worried about our draft position.

(Clinton-Dix, I'm nots ure if he plays the same position as Weddle, and if he does if he can switch. I don't know enough about the subtleties in the difference between FS and SS to say for sure. But he's probably the best S in the draft)
