I had to give Yuba a timeout. We discussed some things and shit didnt change. So he wont be back until after the season is over. Its just a call i made for the sake of keeping the forums drama levels down. Seemed like most threads were getting infected with his views. Personally i just scrolled right on past what he had to say but it was obvious that most here wanted to participate. It was just a headache. Moving on.

The purpose of a forum isn't to talk past one another. In his case, he was very insistent on his points of view (both in terms of frequency and length) so it's sort of hard not to respond.

But the larger question is this and I direct it to Fleet:

Did you ban the guy for being opinionated and sticking to his guns? As interminable and wrongheaded and condescending as I found him to be, I'm not sure that banning someone for having a strong and wrong opinion is warranted. Do I think he had a tendency to derail threads? Yes. Could you argue that it made the overall experience here of lesser quality? Perhaps, but he sure got lots of people posting. So we all seemed to get something out of it.

I guess I'm just concerned that it's kind of a violation of the concepts of free speech to simply censor anyone who is loud and wrong. By and large, I think the guy was respectful (if dismissive) and didn't violate any decency standards. I had my issues with him, but I didn't ever think you would go so far as to ban the guy for doing his thing.

I felt he was trying to abuse his privileges after he was asked politely to keep his main talking points in threads pertaining to those opinions. But he seemed to carry the message into most threads. Creating an ungodly amount of drama. And in turn causing my inbox to flood with complaints. Even after 2 mods and myself asked him to tone it down or keep it central to just threads regarding his opinions.

It would have been nice to simply see members ignore him or dispute his opinions with something other than attacks and sarcasm. You may have had fun doing it but it was pure shit to read. Hopefully in the future you can just ignore the types that cause you to get so worked up. We dont need thread after thread of stupid bickering and bullshit over the same fucking stuff over and over again.

For me, if I don't see value in the first 5 lines of a post, I'm usually scrolling. There wasn't much real debate going on, more like mockery after a hilariously baseless position based on flawed analysis, then a restatement of the baseless position.

I understand what you're saying about the drama. But on the other hand, why are people flooding your mailbox? All this talk about requests to ban and e-mails about who is posting what seem to be just as bad as anything he or his foils were doing. Just drama of a different variety. Big boys in here. Should be able to police ourselves.

I don't know what the nature of your conversations with him were, so that could make a difference. But from where I sit, and I can't believe I'm writing this, I think the ban is unjustified. Certainly the length of it. If someone wants to state, defend and re-state opinions they should be able to. If they are dismissive and condescending toward others, that'll all sort itself out in the wash. If there is a lack of civility or people are being totally disrespectful or posting kiddie porn or whatever, then yeah, ban em. But as much as I had problems with this guy's opinions and weak argumentation, I think he was generally a decent guy. Just horribly arrogant and misguided. Like Den. ;-)

I have not been on this board for long but have been posting for years and I thought this board had recently gone to crap because of all the drama surrounding Yubaking and his posts. With each day the board became less about Chargers debates/discussions or conversations and more about either mocking Yubaking (I too am guilty) or being flooded by his continuos posts or diatribes saying the same things over and over again.

The posting in here became extremely similar to what ESPN had become at the end when it was just continuos trolling and the masses just responding to or defending against the trolls and completely getting away from quality discussions.
