    Turnovers

Not scoring TD in the Red Zone has hurt us, and another key is Turnovers. Did you know through 9 games we only have 6 turnovers. We have 2 fumbles recovered and 4 INTs. The 4 INTS are really sad because 2 are from the defensive lineman Cam Thomas and Sean Lissemore. The secondary owns the other two one each for Cox and Giichrist. How sad is that!

Quarterbacks have all day to throw. They're not going to throw many INTs.

agreed, but if you are close enough to make a hit to jar the ball loose for a fumble or incompletion or deflect or tip for a possible INT. Our secondary is chasing the recievers, we need a Rodney Harrison type at safety causing a reciever to short arm a catch to lead to a possible interception. We aren't close in making plays from the secondary period.

Unfortunately, it has fairly well been demonstrated that turnovers are based largely on luck. It's not as though we haven't caused a few fumbles; they've simply fallen into the other team's hands (like that muffed punt yesterday). Improving the pass rush should improve the number of INTs, as QBs under pressure tend to see the field less well and make more mistakes, but our DBs still have to catch the errant throws. Not much we can do to improve the fumble situation, though.

Maybe you haven't noticed, but with rules changes in the past few years, the Rodney Harrison/Chuck Cecil/Ronnie Lott type safety is a dying breed. Receivers can now go over the middle with impunity, and any defender that lays the wood over the middle is likely to get penalized and/or fined.

Without the ability to preasure the QB with 3 or 4 dlinemen we are taking a player or two out of coverage to blitz. Without enough tallent in the secondary we can not play enough pressman to give the dline more time. Its a cycle. We need a NT, a OLB passrush threat and two DBs that are head and shoulders better than Cox and Patrick along with Williams back.

I don't think that stopped Troy Polamanu, Ed Reed, Brandon Merriweather, and Dashon Goldson! Yes the rules have changed, but some players are going to be agressive anyway.

We don't need a Rodney Harrison type safety. What we need on defense are guys who can hit the quarterback and make tackles.

The last time we had a Rodney Harrison type safety was when we had the real Rodney Harrison. With him as a starting safety for 6 or 7 years, we never even got close to making the post season.

I wouldn't mind having a decent secondary but not at the expense of getting some better D linemen and pass rushers.

Haven't been following NFL news the past couple of seasons, have you? Missed the controversy with Merriweather last week?

(BTW, how do you include Ed Reed on this list??? Comparing Reed to Harrison or Lott is like comparing Darren Sproles to Christian Okoye!)

Exactly Merriweather hasn't changed this dude has been fine numerous times not just this year, but through out his career, and Ed Reed was fined multiple time last season and it had more to do with him being an agressive player not a dirty player.

Turnovers are sometimes lucky, but it comes from players being agressive and I am not saying to intentionally head hunt, but we have no player on defense that shows aggression

I think we will once Ingram is back.

IMO the key to having a a turnover generating defense is a bunch of guys that you can bring in to rush the passer and then athletic guys in your secondary. That's it. We have neither.
