Helmet was off. I never saw a replay either so I didn't see the timing. May have been a make up call for all the shit KC got away with.

Not sure but I didn't think of that angle because there was no challenge, and that surprised me.

On the one replay the broadcast showed it was not clear when the ball squirted out, but if they called it dead as soon as the helmet came off that would make sense as to why they couldn't replay it, it was blown dead at that point.

Well if his helmet came off it was dead at that point, so if he had the ball when the helmet came off there was nothing to replay.

Play ends when a player with the ball loses his helmet. And is down the moment the helmet comes off.

Direct snap to Weddle on the 4th and short. Weddle made it to the line of gain, but never touched ground, and the officials called either forward progress stopped, or maybe the helmet popping off, but a chief picked up the ball and ran into the endzone.
