Neither Dansby or Spikes is as good an option. A lot of things go into being the best option. Dansby is the better player, but being on the wrong side of 30 and a lot more wear and tear doesn't make you a better FA prospect.

Spikes is a much better run stuffer, but the guy is lost in pass coverage. He is stiff, not fast, lacks lateral quickness and just cannot run well. He is a much better run down guy, and he could be one of those guys who might dominate in the run game, but he won't even be on the field on passing downs, so he will never put up the stats.

Again, how good a signing will depend on how much and how good productive he is next season. But every down LB are rare.

My concerns with Butler are more injury related.

That sounds an awful lot like the last "Spikes" we had.

I think that's the case with most of us, but I still expect more impact plays out of him. The only real impact play I remember from butler last year is the strip fumble on Bernard in the playoffs.

Which was a play that elite players make. I think when healthy he can play at a high level. I also think that with a capable NT our ILBs will play better.

Int in the end zone against Den.
Now, if you excuse me, I have some Charger memories to suppress.
                Let’s win one for Mack.

He did a nice job staying in bounds, but that play was forced by the db.

Some people thought Weddle was way over payed when he signed his extension. I hope the deal is beneficial for both side, but I feel that Butler can play at an elite level, the only thing holding him back is he semi China Doll status

He means all the other FAs were old.

Part 1: The age issue of Dansby v. Butler shouldn't be an issue. Dansby is durable and Butler isn't. That's an issue.

Part 2: I don't know that Dansby is actually better than Butler when Butler plays. Dansby, this past year, played behind a much better defensive line than Butler did. It's hard to say Dansby would have done any better if he had played for the Chargers this past season.

                          Apparently a three yr extension.
