I'm glad Tommy T wasn't as negative as this board has been about him. Now he just needs to prove TT that he was worth the risk.Hashtag thepowderblues

Its always been about the injuries for me. Making plays often requires that quick twitch. And with a lingering groin injury you lose that twitch. And i think when hes healthy he shows that ability.
Were committed to 23 million or so at the two MLB positions for the next 3 years. You hope Te'o has taken over who's the better player by the time Butlers 3 years are up. You will then have to pony up a another big ILB contract to Te'o and most likely lose Butler anyways. If the 2 are considered top 3 duo in the game then maybe you make that position the most heavily invested on the team. But i think its more efficient to draft ILBs in the 3rd or so and groom them. So i see us drafting one over the next couple seasons to develop. Plus you want insurance for Butler that hopefully is more athletic than Bird.

Comment From Mike N.
Hi Kevin, do you think Butler's new contract was good for the Chargers? Did they overpay? Especially when considering his injury history.
Kevin Acee: There is a huge bonus in 2016. It's built to protect them in case he keeps getting injured ... This contract was about what was expected. The Chargers needed him more than other teams, and this is probably slightly more than he would have gotten elsewhere.

That's all I'm stating is that this board was way off in the amount it would cost to keep Butler. Not even close.
(2) There were 20 respondents. You cannot speculate what someone who didn't respond may have thought. (Well, you can, but if you use that as part of your argument, you look like an idiot.)
(3) Given the lack of fractional options in the poll, any contract value in the 6s counts as a 6. (Poorly worded poll, fine. Should have given ranges, but I think most of us assumed a range. Does this make me look like an idiot? Maybe.)
(4) You dispute the assertion that most of the board was within 1 million. Yet, 11 of the 20 respondents were within 1 million of 6 million. That's a simple majority and, therefore, qualifies for use of the adjective 'most' -- nothing fuzzy about these maths.Adipose

And just because we value him more highly then other teams doesn't mean anything negative. No one player has a universal value.

That is not what the board or the poll stated.
The poll question was, "What is the most you would be ok with the Chargers paying Butler per year?" We expressed our views as to what we would be okay with the Chargers paying for Butler. The poll itself does not express any view regarding what Butler would actually be signed for or even if he would be signed at all.
I responded in the $4M range and based upon what I have read so far, I think we overpaid to keep Butler. It remains to be seen how, if at all, any potential overpayment of Butler will affect us in the remainder of this offseason or in the remaining years of his contract in terms of being able to keep or acquire other players.
