I agree. I like Smith, but he runs a lot of the same routes that Allen and Royal run. Granted I do think a lot of people on this board still think we run a ton of long routes Norv style (we don't), but it would be nice to have that option occasionally to keep defenses honest.

It's not that, really. We need the threat of the deep ball to keep defense's honest, as you say, so that Allen and Royal have more room to run the underneath stuff. That has nothing to do with running Norvesque routes. At the moment, we really have no one who can stretch the field (and I agree with you that Smith wasn't the right guy).

Steve Smith mentioned that the Chargers offered a contract, seems like we are looking for a vet. WR then my guess is we go after James Jones...
