People need to stop getting fixated on the height thing. How many 6'5" Wr who are any good are in the NFL? 5 maybe 6. And Vernett has big quickness and flexibility advantages on those guy on some routes, although you never hear TV types talk about that. When was the last time a 6'5" guy beat a 5'9" CB on a slant? It doesn't happen often because big guys have to really sink their hips and drive the route, giving the CB the read to jump the route. Yes, he will be at a disadvantage on the deep fades, but how many of those are thrown in any game? And of those, how many are perfectly on target into that small window where the WR can get it and the short CB can't? Again, it is a slight, micrometer type advantage that is offset by a mile by the fact Vernett is one of the best coverage guys in college FB.

We aren't selling jeans. Fixate on the important qualities, not the superficial ones.

I agree. The height thing is overrated. Even the tallest corners are going to be smaller than the freak receivers like Megatron out there.

Avery? That's a good point , Beer. But I wonder if the QB's of those teams will now shift to their bigger WRs now that we got Verrett in there and Williams coming back.

Who are these big receivers? Demarius Thomas is the only guy and he's 6'3. Wright was actually able to handle him well last year. He was a non factor in the playoffs. 4 for 45 I think.

Bowe has gotten slow and he has Mr. Check down throwing to him.

I'm not concerned about it in the least. In our scheme I think it's more important that a CB is able to break on a pattern and anticipate routes more than anything. Kid is a playmaker. Just look at the WRs he locked down last year. Goodley from Baylor is a fucking beast and he got shutdown. OBJ got shutdown. Ward got shutdown. That's a lot of talented WRs that had very bad games vs. Verrett.

Seriously the only knock on Verrett is his size and a few injuries (which he actually played through). He's not perfect clearly, but he's pretty damned good and has been mentioned (a lot) - scheme fit matters.

I just keep remembering the Chargers were the nemesis of Peyton Manning and the Colts in the Playoffs. The Colts would bring out Bob Sanders and their other short corners, and the Chargers loaded with the 6 foot 5 trio in Floyd, Vincent Jackson, and Gates would play jump ball on the sidelines with little hook patterns, and the same in the end zone against those small corners. I assure you Jason Verrett at his best after years of playing in the NFL will have trouble being another Bob Sanders, yet the Chargers would beat him and the rest of the blue smurfs like a drum.

I guess TT can't remember that. So it looks like we just drafted another smurf. The TV pundits, after we drafted Verrett, said "but he can't play corner", and the other said they must have drafted Verrett to play nickle. But the Chargers already have a taller Gilcrest and Stevie Williams to play that nickle. So I guess we now have three nickles, one will have to be cut. None can play as a starting corner in the NFL, against tall WR's and TE's because it will be a game of jump ball along the sidelines if we try to start a small corner. Sounds like the Chargers playing the Peyton Manning Colts doesn't it?

There's Thomas and his teammate, the TE Thomas. There's Bowe in KC. There's James Jones in Oakland. Maybe I'm blowing this out of proportion but I see veterans better at using their bodies for positioning and knowing when and how to push off than college players (to avoid penalties). Saavy is the word I'm looking for.
