I'm not saying that is how it is, I am just saying that is the perception some people have of him. And right or wrong, a lot of people see him as a big bust potential, and they feel like he should be a little more low key.

I know he is getting a lot more attention for his trip to Vegas that he took right after the latest round of OTA's ended in Cleveland, then he got for anything he did in OTA's.

And Johnny Football can put an end to all of this anytime he wants. Just stop being so public about having a good time, act like you are an UDFA and start spending solid 9-5 stretches Monday-Friday going into the Browns HQ. It is not an unreasonable expectation for a guy who could be a rookie starter for a team in desperate need of a QB. But the first thing that Manziel did was fly off to Vegas. I don't think the vets begrudge him too much (yet), but I think they would appreciate seeing him in doing everything he can to get ready for the upcoming season.

I have heard several interviews with the guy and while clearly he relishes the limelight, he seems nowhere near the jerk he is being made out to be. I have no idea if he will succeed or flameout in the league but geez, let the guy play a season or two before burying him.

He will succeed or fail like most other supremely talented guys. If he puts in the work and stays healthy, then he can probably be a great player.

The catch is that at QB, the difference between what made a QB good in college and what will allow them to succeed is a lot bigger. NFL QB do a LOT of work on their own, that people don't hear about. So, if Johnny thinks he can just go to practice and do what the coaches tell him, he is pretty much doomed. He has to put in a lot of other work with his receivers, studying the offense, working with coaches until he knows the offense backwards and forewards, and knows exactly what his teammates will do in every situation.

I think the real issue is that Manziels focus really isn't on football. He has his attention spread in a lot of other directions. Maybe he can handle it, maybe not. But I am pretty sure that if he doesn't work very efficiently, and absorb and process a ton of information, and put it into his game to use, he is going to end up like Tebow. Tebow never stopped working, and had an NFL type work ethic coming out of college, but I don't think he ever really focused on being a QB first, that all the other stuff was just as important and he wasn't willing to let the other stuff go. And Tebow was never able to transform himself, which is something Manziel is going to have to do too.

Just like every other 1st round qb, he has a 50% chance of succeeding. I don't think anybody knows why half succeed and half don't. But he'll be fun to watch make the journey.
Now, if you excuse me, I have some Charger memories to suppress.
            Let’s win one for Mack.

I hope he does. The NFL needs more franchise QB. PLus I think it would give everyone good insight into how and why running QB can succeed.

The San Diego Chargers didn’t get a crack at quarterback Johnny Manziel in the NFL draft. The San Diego Padres — along with every other Major League Baseball team — got plenty of cracks at Manziel in the MLB draft.

                Eventually, the Padres pounced.

As noted by our brethren at CFT, the Padres selected Manziel in the 28th round.

It’s likely little more than a publicity stunt, which eventually could prompt a Russell Wilson-style visit to spring training and other notoriety, including the fact that the name “San Diego Padres” is getting national attention at a time when the team otherwise would get none.

Manziel, who has yet to sign a contract with the Browns and could, in theory, decide to ditch football for baseball, surely has no interest in becoming a modern-day Bo Jackson. But he has no reason to complain about a development that allows Johnny Football a/k/a Johnny Cleveland a/k/a Johnny Vegas to add another alias to his portfolio.

                Johnny San Diego.
They need to fire this GM. Yeah its the 28th round but to say he was the best athlete available when he didnt even play Baseball in college and there is no chance he isnt going to play football........ridiculous!

Things like this and a team that cant hit for shit....shitcan this GM and the hitting coach.

Padres are stupid. We can't hit, yet waisted a coveted draft spot. Im a die hard fan and im about done w/them.

Agree 100%... many deserving kids watched/listened for their name to be called and MY team makes a joke of it to get a minute of fame on social media and ESPN. Mike Dee is a failure.

Don't give up on the Pads.
Okay, don't actually believe we'll ever win.
But don't give up rooting for them.

Come on, the 28th pick in the MLB draft is valuable? I wonder how long these guys actually last in pro baseball. Two weeks? A month?

I wouldnt call it valuable(you mean 28th round) but Mike Piazza was a 62nd round pick (which is funny they even have that many rounds) and many others that were low round pick have made it and done well. Its Baseball, you never know who will be a good player there but we do know it wont be Manziel. Wasting a pick on Manziel just to get a day of fame is fucking stupid.

Other low round picks in the past:

                          Albert Pujols, 13th round
                          Jason Bay, 22nd round
                          Roy Oswald, 23rd round
                          Ryne Sanberg, 20th round
                          Keith Hernandez, 42nd round
                          Jeff Kent, 20th round

The list goes on and on
