The downside is I'm going to Vegas next weekend to put some money on the Bolts to win the Division. There goes my odds.
Now, if you excuse me, I have some Charger memories to suppress.

I'm also thinking he didn't sign until he was assured he is the starting corner on the outside.

I hope Flowers is all that.

@PFF_Pete: If you can chalk up Brandon Flowers' poor 2013 to injury/scheme (and I do), the Chargers just signed a Top 10 CB.

Great news! The off season isn't all that 'quiet' now.

One of the best ways to compete in the AFC West is having a talented secondary. By signing veteran cornerback Brandon Flowers, the San Diego Chargers have asserted themselves as a serious contender in their division heading into 2014.

On Tuesday afternoon, the Chargers inked Flowers to a one-year deal, giving themselves yet another boost on the backend of their defense.

Now in San Diego, Flowers will join rookie Jason Verrett to create an intriguing starting cornerback duo. While Verrett, the Chargers’ 2014 first-round pick, is a bit of a question mark heading into his rookie season, there’s little to be worried about with Flowers.

The former second-round pick suffered a down year with the Kansas City Chiefs in 2013 despite making the Pro Bowl, but wasn’t a great fit for their man-press scheme. In San Diego’s defensive scheme, he won’t be expected to get in receivers faces as often, which should allow him to return to form in 2014.

Despite the fact that the Chiefs released him only 11 days ago, Flowers is still a top-tier cornerback with the ability to make big plays in coverage. He’s one of the highest-rated cornerbacks in recent history according to Pro Football Focus, and should have no problem earning another significant payday next offseason.

The Chargers managed to make it to the divisional round of the NFL playoffs last season despite a horrid defensive backfield – 29th in the league to be exact. Especially in a division that includes the aerial assault that is the Denver Broncos, the upgrade at cornerback will certainly give San Diego an edge going into a 2014 campaign during which they’re expected to be a dark horse Super Bowl contender.

Teamed with All-Pro Eric Weddle and the underrated Marcus Gilchrist, Flowers could help the Chargers field one of the best secondaries in the NFL in 2014. If they can get the same type of production from their offense this season as they did in 2013, there’s no telling how far the Chargers could go. If anything, winning the AFC West is now a realistic goal.

Sorry Peyton Manning, but you can’t pick on the Chargers’ secondary anymore with a player like Flowers in the mix.
Damn, did somebody really write that?

Wait - we signed the cornerback, not the lead singer from The Killers, right?

Oh yeah, we've got a real GM now - nevermind.
