Brown is very fast, Tranquill not too bad either. Not to make an excuse but slow footspeed, lack of ability was not the problem. They just blew it.

For some reason, I think it was Steve who posted last week that Brown does better in vertical coverage...and that his sideline to sideline coverage for some reason is just poor...poor angles, poor anticipation, Jatavis just seems to get exposed too many times failing to defend those little swing passes...I'm getting tired of it...

I have to admit I liked that punishing bruising run by Newsome against the 49's second string defense. However, it was afterall, against their second string defensive unit. His effectiveness between the tackle runs is what is in question. I bet he makes the cut. I also bet that is one hard decision for TT. The other candidates aren't as much a power bruiser runner. They are more quick Ekeler types, without as much running power as Ekeler. I see lots of RB's on the practice squad after Saturdays cut.

Ah, but remember, Detrez DID have a 5.7 avg. on 6 carries vs. the Chefs FIRST string defense last year...not too shabby...

Pope has shown a bit more than Detrez, especially as a returner. I'd like to keep both Pope and Newsome, and cut Watt...Culkin has shown more than enough as a lead blocker on sweeps, which makes Watt kind of expendable...why not also put Culkin in motion and lead block between the tackles? Every time I see Watt in there in the I-formation, Whiz is telegraphing to the D, "here comes the lead block and tailback up the gut." So predictable...
