I guess I should have explained a bit more. It's telling because he was a returning starter. There was all sorts of hype about him being healthy and bulked up.Originally posted by Boltjolt View PostI wouldnt say that is telling as of yet. They have OL playing all over the line. They try new things in TC and preseason. Giving him some reps on the first team to see how he does certainly wont hurt. Im just hoping for no big injuries and they line up who they think is the best players.....though it took them a while to figure put that Cox sucks.
Generally starters from the previous season that already know the system aren't demoted to 3rd string basically that quickly. Much less for a guy that didn't even play last year and for all intents and purposes is a rookie.
That's all I'm saying.

By all accounts, Davis has flashed potential. But isn't the knock on him that he's inconsistent as all get out? Like with the Tutu vs. Reese/Inman debate, I can't see the coaches going with the inconsistent rook (who can likely be stashed on the PS) over the steady, reliable (if not sexy) vet.Originally posted by Beerman View PostWe'll see soon enough. The coaches, however, have Stevie Williams taking 1st teams reps over him. That's telling considering we are already two weeks into camp. I really do hope he's fully healthy now and that he can contribute something positive. However, he's gonna have to show it on the field before I change my mind on him.
Something else to consider is that he's on a vet minimum 1 year deal. Then you have a guy like Chris Davis who is an UDFA and you have multiple years of control over. He's showed a little something in camp. Does that longterm potential from the 5th CB outweigh the potential contributions this season from Marshall? (You should take into account that Wright, Flowers, and Gilchrist are all FA's the following year as well)Adipose

I have no clue about Davis' consistency since I never really watched him in college. I do know they asked a lot of him and had him covering the best receivers. I also THINK I read he played in a primarily press man scheme that he was ill fitted to play.Originally posted by Panama View PostBy all accounts, Davis has flashed potential. The coaches and the preseason games will soon put an end to the speculation (if only a little bit).

PR will likely be Royal. Brown could win KR duties.Originally posted by blueman View PostI think who gets PR and KR opportunities in preseason games will be telling for these bubble guys.
Not sure there's going to be much of a reason to activate any of the younger (rookie) guys.
I know Verrett said he wanted to handle return duties, but I doubt they expose him (early in the season at least).
I wish Stevie Williams had return ability with that speed.

IMO you can't put any stock in the depth chart til after the 3rd preseason game. That's the game the starters wil play 3 quarters. Jobs will be won or lost where there is tight competition at that point . I'd be pretty shocked if Williams is penned a starter with his very limited experience bit whoever they decide is fine with me. Just hope they live up to it.Originally posted by Beerman View PostI have no clue about Davis' consistency since I never really watched him in college. Flowers and Wright are the likely starters unless Verrett gets healthy quicker (probably not likely, nor is there a need to push him IMO).
I'm not saying Williams will be a starter, but he's the guy getting starter reps with Flowers being sidelined for 5 days now.
And I'm not talking about the depth chart, I'm talking about practice reps which is what really matters. The coaches currently have Williams ahead. Now he needs to show it in the preseason games to retain that spot.
