The Chargers defeated Manning's Colt teams twice in the playoffs, but lost to Manning's Broncos. Though the discussion of QB win loss records is nonsense, that makes Charger teams with Rivers at QB 2-1 against Peyton Manning's teams. Manning's team had the better ranked defense in all 3 games and yet Rivers came out on the winning side twice.
The 2008 Steelers had the #1 ranked defense versus the 25th ranked defense for the Chargers. Notwithstanding this, Rivers had a higher passer rating in the game than Roethlisbrger had and had the highest single game QB rating of any opposing team's QB that played in Pittsburgh that entire season. Those opposing QBs included Peyton Manning, Tony Romo, Eli Manning and Joe Flacco.
The 2006 and 2007 Patriots had defenses ranked better than those of the Chargers in those seasons. The 2007 Patriots were undefeated at home.
The 2018 Patriots had a worse defense than the 2018 Chargers, but the Patriots were undefeated at home in the 2018 season.

Sigh. First, QBs do not play directly against each other. Their teams play against other teams, some of which have QBs that are expected to reach the Hallf of Fame.
I don't disagree with you at all. My point is that this is what Phil's detractors say. A lack of playoff success. I was just pointing out how hard the AFC was during his prime. If he was with the Giants instead of Eli there is no doubt he has a ring or 3.
