I've been robbed at gunpoint twice in my life, I grew up in Southeast San Diego a quarter mile north of Lincoln HS...on both occasions I complied and gave up the shit in a heartbeat, I could've easily become a statistic over a handful of bucks, yeah, not worth it...I would advice Pearsall to give up the watch next time and just walk away but 23 year olds don't always listen to reason, his life is worth a hell of a lot more than that Rolex...

You are right but thieves today still shoot. Which is stupid as they likely will get caught from doing that and may not even get caught if they didn't shoot anyone. Ghetto thugs raised by bad parents....or parent.

Statement from the Niners says that Pearsall is in serious but stable condition, asking public to respect his privacy at this time. Also, news reports the suspect is a 17 yr old from Tracy, CA.

Rough neighborhood, especially back then.
I was there once, had a hand gun pointed at me about 5 inches away from my face.
I knew the guy, it was personal, not a robery.
everything went in slow motion, fear paralyzed me.
I could hear him barking threats but all I could do is psych myself up to defend myself and a split second before I was ready to move my head, he walked away.
He was satisfied with scaring the shit out of me.
I was so fucking relieved because it could have gone so wrong.
I have never owned a gun and have a little anxiety around them in general now but a good friend of mine now is helping me feel.more comfortable around them, he's SDPD.

I owned my first gun at age 11, I had a .38 snub nose, a .357 magnum with the longer barrel, a .30 cal scoped hunting rifle, and a Luger .22 cal for hunting small animals...dad was into guns and my brothers and I grew up learning how to handle them properly and of course we had a blast target shooting and hunting with dad...gun safety was always something pops emphasized as an ex military guy, he used to smack our asses upside the head if we let our guard down around a gun, always mindful of how your holding it, carry it, how you store it, clean it, etc...

Dad was the one that told us never to fuck with someone pointing a gun at you, assume that they're capable of pulling the trigger and stay alive, he always said, "Nothing someone wants to steal from you is worth more than your life"

somehow I've managed to live the last several decades of my life without need of a gun, the choice was being happily married to my amazing wife or owning a gun so I sold all my guns...

He probably just paid $50k for it after signing his rookie contract and didn't want to give it up. It does make wonder if he is not able to play for awhile whether the Niners will try to get out of paying him for suffering a non-football injury he could have avoided if it turns out he resisted the would-be robber.

My concern for Ricky is if he hurt his assailant severely enough that he might face legal issues on account of that, I know it sounds crazy but this shit could end up costing him a fortune in legal fees etc...

see what I mean? If Pearsall kills that guy he could be prosecuted for doing a minor, IDK, younger people carrying guns are even more dangerous than older guys, but of course even a senior citizen could be a deadly fucking guy with a long history of violence...just give up the goods

eventually we'll learn what happened, it's possible like you said that the kid shot him AFTER he gave him the watch, we just don't know the whole story...
