I am not sure they needed a reason to play him once the Chargers won that game. They were eliminated. So no real reason to lie about the injury. A few weeks left in the season - easily could have just said "knee injury" and with the season over, why play him? Even if he got hurt just enough to leave the game but would have been well to play the next week - no reason too.

Why would the Chiefs need to lie about resting Mahomes if the chance to go to the playoffs was not a possibility. I mean, even though not a fan of them getting the top 10 pick - -at that point, their record was I think 6-8, no chance at the playoffs, why risk playing him? It would have actually been stupid to play him. And not because of getting a better draft pick -which is nice. Just the injury factor alone would be dumb to play him.

Imho is Reid misses playoffs 2 seasons in a row even his seat will get warm. Missing PO's 3 seasons in a row and fan will say they're wasting Mahommes' remaining best years of his career.
