I saw his interview on NFL network...... since he did not retire before or during season, Ive always thought Chargers had told him to stay in shape if we made playoffs and they would have signed him late to play in playoffs..... to have a shot at SB......

sad that it did not happen...... class act and a great HOF career for a guy who did not play football till NFL...... always has sounded like a nice guy

great one! he did suck at blocking. you look at a guy like kittle and he can block and catch. and man can that dude run! and he's physical AF after catch.

His last big year was 2014......went downhill after that point.

When he broke out (2004?) is when I realistically believed we could win it all.
before then I was just following to represent my town but didn’t really believe.

Great player, he will be missed and was missed this season.

I think him being gone hurt Rivers this season as Gates for many years was Rivers safety blanket.

Rivers just always seemed to know where Gates was no matter the play.

Man, I love me some Antonio Gates.

While I know it was time, I will still miss him (even though he didn't play this year)

Remarkable Charger with one helluva career! I'm glad to hear he will be taking a similar role to LT within the Chargers organization.

I believe the Chargers organization will give Gates the same love as they did LT. Definitely will retire 85 down the road. I don't see anyone else donning 85 ever. And when PR decides to retire, he will get the same treatment IMO.

Gates said today he was considering playing for the Colts last season but they fell out of playoff contention so no need. Apparently, he and Reich discussed it
