Hell, that doesn't even take into account he would probably get a boost in his salary this year. You also keep ignoring that Freeney's contract has $4.5M in performance bonuses. Bonuses likely to be earned count against the cap the year they are earned. His PBs are supposedly based on his recent production. Last year that was 5 sacks.

One more thing, when you backload a contract in guaranteed money you push your cap problems down the road. I'd prefer to pay him now (spread out in a way that makes sense), when this team has pretty much no chance of being a SB team, than creating a problem 2 or three years from now when we could be a contender. But that's just me.
