I think Joe Reed has enough speed to make it as our #3. He has the added ability to makes people miss after the catch.
IMO, speed is often over-rated in that the difference between what a 4.5 guy and 44 guy can do for you really isn't great. - But, if you have a 4.27 guy (that can catch) you have a special player. Marty always liked to point out that "speed kills" but we all have watched Benjamin get deep only to drop a perfect pass. I'll be expecting Reed to help our team this year.

Speed indeed killed us fans hope for winning when we watched Benjamin blaze by the DP and drop the wide open TD pass all too often.

and yet, he made two big catches in traffic in the KC game 2 years ago. Chiefs fan probably didn't even know how unlucky it was that he made those catches. Some people just can't catch.
This KJ Hill vs Joe Reed debate reminds me of the Tyrell Williams vs Dontrelle Inman debate. I loved Inman, solid route runner and sure handed. Tyrell made the flashy plays and was fast but never figured out how to use his height. Ultimately speed won and it seems like that might be the route they go again.
The latest news that’s being discussed on IF and twitter seems to be the WR3 camp battle. My personal favorite based on college tape is KJ Hill, but Anthony Lynn came out yesterday saying that he wants a burner, a guy that’s going to take the top off the defense and KJ Hill doesn’t seem like that type of guy and doesn’t seem to have the speed to do so. Andre Patton has 4.4 speed and had a good preseason last year but didn’t impress in the regular season when he got the opportunity. The obvious answer seems to be Joe Reed, but I wonder if any of these UDFAs can make a splash in camp.
1. KA
2. M. Williams
3. Reed (225lb playmaker who will play WR, RB, KR)
4. Hill (great route runner who catches everything)
5. Schoen (tough WR who gets open and catches everything even when being mugged)
6. Maybe a 6th from the rest who really impress in camp.....

You are right but Williams was just better than Inman overall I think. My problem with Williams is that was was a very lazy route runner. He rounded off his breaks, ran wrong depth on them and often let passes bounce off his hands to be picked. I loved the guy when he was on but he would phase out of games and just disappear. It was frustrating because we got to see what he could do when he was focused.

I warned several Raider fans at my work about that. They said I was just bitter. About halfway through the season last year they came up to me and said, you were right he just vanishes for games at a time. I really liked him but damn was he frustrating.

Because of Covid, the backup players will be more important this year than ever.. the @6 WR could suddenly be #1. I hope they make the right choices.

Our 53 man roster plus the 12 man PS roster will be of vital importance this year. If we are able to play a full season, I expect to see 8-12 players promoted from the practice squad that will receive actual playing time due to COVID scratches, short-term IR, of starters for 2-6 weeks at a time.
