If you know your Charger history, like those of us who have lived it live, you will remember that the drafting of Gary Anderson was Coryell's Waterloo.

We could have had Elway, or some defense, way over and above BR Smith Jr. + Gil Byrd.

Why does the only draft expert wise enough to mock Najee to LAC have to be the one to point this out, instead of The Trenchers?

That flying TD by Gary Anderson was the beginning of a disastrous season.
    Smashmouth.
    Reinvented.

Billy Ray Smith and Gill Byrd had solid careers with the Chargers. Other than that leaping TD, I remember very little about Gary Anderson. I first thought he would become a scatback similar to James Brooks, although being a very different type athlete .. Boy was I wrong!

Didn’t he have at least a couple productive seasons with the Chargers??

We didnt get Anderson right away, he went to the USFL first. In anycase, And then we did get him , he was a backup RB for us at first.

Remember the hubbub for Trumaine Johnson? Bought out his CFL contract and he was a bust with us lol.

          4. ASANTE SAMUEL JR., FLORIDA STATE
Samuel doesn’t have the size or the length most look for from an outside corner, but he’s got pretty much everything else. He may be the single most gifted mover in the cornerback class when you consider speed, burst, agility, change-of-direction ability and leaping ability. He could be described as “plus” in all of those categories.

He undoubtedly got his instincts from his old man as well, as he produced three picks and five pass breakups in eight games this season. What he didn’t get was the elder’s tackling aversion — the Florida State prospect will come up and lay a lick if asked to.

Asante Samuel might be available in the second round if Farley or Surtain are not there in the first. I like Horn also, but I think he might be gone by the end of the first.

Aaron Robinson UCF is another CB that might be a good fit in the 2nd round.

Going to be at least 4 CBs that go round 1. Farley/Surtain II and then team favorites. Stokes, Melinfonwu, Horn, Campbell, Molden, Samuel II, Wade, Newsome II, and maybe Joseph.

How about we go OT @13, then use one of our 3rd rounders to trade back into round 1 for a good cover corner? Normally, I'm opposed to trading up, but since we most probably get a comp 3rd rounder for Rivers, we'll have an extra poker chip to play...

Don’t we have a couple of former EXOS guys on our team? Nice to see the company step up and provide a pseudo Combine for the potential draftees.
                  https://www.si.com/nfl/2021/02/25/ga...s-filling-void
EXOS is among the leaders in predraft training for college football’s best, and they have prospective first-rounders like LSU’s Ja'Marr Chase, Miami’s Greg Rousseau, Minnesota’s Rashod Bateman and Alabama's Patrick Surtain II among the 133 players working to get ready in their ranks this year, across facilities in Pensacola, Fla.; Carlsbad, Calif.; Frisco, Texas; and Phoenix. And this week, they’re consolidating those four groups down to two and running their own combine.

The kids at the San Diego–area facility will go to Phoenix, and those in Pensacola will travel to Texas. Dominik will help run the Dallas-area pro day, and former Panthers director of player personnel Don Gregory will help conduct the one in Phoenix. As it stands as of Thursday afternoon, fewer than half of the 133 guys with EXOS are expected to participate in these combine sessions.

But this isn’t about who chooses to go and who doesn’t. It’s about creating an opportunity for kids who’ve had their dreams and plans thrown in a blender over the last 12 months.

“In a normal year, guys would have an opportunity to participate at the combine and then at their pro day,” said Adam Farrand, EXOS’s VP of pro/elite sports. “And so if you get a kid with an injury, not ready to perform at the combine, he’s always got his pro day. This year, that’s gone. So we just want it to be sort of that secondary opportunity for guys. And we have some smaller school kids where our pro day is going to be their pro day.”

So yes, this is a story about what’ll take place in Dallas and Phoenix the next two days. And it’s also the story of what a weird year this has been, in general, for all the players there.

We should get the #97 pick for Phil.

True that 50-28 beat down of Miami in game 1 was the pinicle of the season. LOL

Gary Anderson finally had his what could have been season in 1988 in a wasted season. 1100 yards and a 5.0 average with no QB to take the heat off him. Sadly that was it.

What would you have been willing to give the Colts for Elway? They did the same thing that the Chargers did with Manning - they drafted Elway even though he threatened to stick with playing baseball for the Yankees.

We could have traded all three round one picks for Elway.
                          Colts would have said yes.
Chargers said never mind to getting John Elway as Fouts understudy,
                          because it was too soon.
