    Colts would have said yes.
Chargers said never mind to getting John Elway as Fouts understudy,
    because it was too soon.
    Terrible decision

Definitely have Trill in my round 4 clusta...maybe he's gone by then.

Not gonna pigeonhole him at CB. Combo Safety too.

Didn’t he have at least a couple productive seasons with the Chargers??
He had a few decent seasons. He signed an expensive contract elsewhere.

At the time, I thought 3 #1s was too much. In retrospect, it would have been cheap.
Now, if you excuse me, I have some Charger memories to suppress.

They could have just grabbed Marino.

With our first pick in that draft we could have taken Jim Covert, Bruce Matthews, or Jim Kelly. With our last two picks we still had Marino and Darrell Green on the board. And Richard Dent last until the 8th round.

We had 3 out of 28 picks in the first. There are seven guys that ended up in the HoF from that first round. And we got none of them.

Or instead of using all three first round picks to get Elway, use only one for Jim Kelly or Dan Marino.

Yeah, that draft is brutal to look at in hindsight. That said, looking back at history will drive you crazy. That draft was shortly before my third birthday, so it was before my time. Granted, I became a fan of the Chargers and the NFL while many of those Hall of Famers were at the height of their power.

For me, the most painful part of Chargers history is 1/14/07.

I will always remember that game.

                          AFC Divisional Playoff

                          Patriots 24, Chargers 21

                          Union-Tribune game coverage

The game: Needing two home wins to reach the Super Bowl after a brilliant 14-2 regular season, the Chargers couldn't even get one, losing in a flurry of turnovers, dropped passes, silly penalties and poor coaching decisions. LaDainian Tomlinson rushed for 123 yards and two scores, and the Chargers intercepted Tom Brady three times, but Marlon McCree fumbled away the third one with 6:16 remaining and the Patriots capitalized with the tying TD, then won on a field goal with 1:10 left.
