Its as simple as that.
Telesco has drafted two tight ends his entire tenure here.
Second, this note on TEs.
Not a single team should draft a tight end on Day 1
The track record of first-round tight ends is really, really bad. And with the exception of freaks like Kyle Pitts, players at this position just do not produce at a high level on a short enough timeline to justify the first-round investment. You're better off taking shots on Day 2 or Day 3 and developing a tight end on a bit of a longer timeline, since most players at the position don't become high-level producers until they are on their second contract anyway. -- Jared Dubin/CBS Sports

We already have quality at TE with Everett. What we need is an upgrade.

(albeit am betting that young John does, for the if and when he might choose ?)
and before we give Tom too much credit, he did pass up on George Pickens for Khalil, who likely plays but one more season for us, and he passed on several good gets for JT Woods, and for which we are in need of a pass catcher this go 'round, which coulda been a receiver and/or TE last go 'round if we had played our cards differently, and....
Mack is not a bust, but not sure he was the best longterm gambit, and Woods may well turn into a good longterm gambit, but he sure left some talent on the board there, 'specially if Spiller doesn't pan out.
I thought your hindsight slap about Khalil was a bit of misinformation. LAC traded for Khalil more then a month prior to the draft - you make it sound like TT “passed up on George Pickens” when he got Khalil. Or thats how I read it. TT had no idea GP would be on the board at that pick when he made the trade. He, i think fairly, guessed that there wouldn’t be an edge player nearly as good as Khalil when that pick came around and better vs longer was what he wanted. Right or wrong, we will see if Khalil has 2 more years in him, if we get 3 top level years out of him, I’m good with the deal. He wasn’t a long term gambit, thats not the correct question. What is long term in the NFL these days anyway.
Agree on Woods 100%. I’d never heard of him pre-draft, and he was not at all NFL ready and therefore not a good pick. He may NEVER be NFL: ready and will be yet another in the extraordinarily bad record of TT in the 3rd. I don’t konw if all GMs are that bad in Rd3, it sure seems like TT should have at least found a couple worthy players in 10 years. We got, what, Slayer and Palmer? McKitty doesn’t look worth the pick and I can’t bring myself to list all of the worse picks“Less is more? NO NO NO - MORE is MORE!”

Khalijah Kancey Pitt defensive tackle.
comp he looks like Aaron Donald.
that guy is a stud. If you put him next to Joey Bosa and Khalil Mack you change that defense. And I can see the Chargers taking him. I can see the Chargers drafting him.

Running backs are devalued because they start wearing out by the time of their 2nd contract.
Do you think Telesco and John boy are thinking about 6 years from now?
They need to win now and elite rookie rbs are productive from the get go.
Its Robinson if he's available ..... pretty certain of that.

Bijan, or Beef.
The only DB I'd be excited about at #21 is Joey Porter, Jr.
The only receiver I'd be excited about at #21 is... TE Darnell 'Beef-a-roni' Washington.
If Telesco thinks the best player on the board at #21 is a wideout-- and takes him-- he *HAS TO* be right, and I won't forgive him, if he's not! There are too many other needs the team has that are even MORE glaring than WR. IMO, the Defensive Front Seven is a significantly bigger priority, as is DB for that matter. I'd also rather further solidify the O-line-- protecting Herb and boosting the run game-- than to draft a speedy wideout that Herbert won't have adequate time in the pocket to hit.

I'm just hoping it doesn't play out like that, because I want more depth along the defensive line. If we don't get at least one productive defensive tackle or edge rusher in this draft I think we're going to be dangerously thin on the defensive line by next offseason.
But...Bijan Robinson is just way too good to pass up at #21. If he falls to us you HAVE to take him.

Quentin Johnston
Keeanu Benton
Byron Young EDGE Tennessee
6'2" 250# 4.4 Forty albeit linear speed.
Compact build suggests durability.
This guy is a unique combination of Pass Rush Specialist and Coverage Linebacker. The speed is clear, as a tool for closing on QBs, backside pursuit, and staying with receivers. We can use NASCAR package and also disguise Young in coverage.
Brenton Strange TE-HB Penn St
This is a perfect fit for our needs. We want to run and get chunk yards on early downs. We want to marry the run and the pass. You've heard all this.
Kellen Moore loves to line up a TE in the backfield. Strange is VERY good at blocking from this formation. He can line up In-Line too and serve as a reliable intermediate range receiver.
Second/Third round talent falls to us due to draft depth and universal desire for TE-WR types.
Demario Douglas
Christian Izien
Jake Andrews
We do not play modern football.
