ditto when taking a closer look @Bowers vs. someone on the Dline.... (for myself the biggest consideration when balancing needs to available talent in the draft is hedging our bets on Khalil w/Latu)

and bact to OT.... have heard/read some rumbling re: Fashanu.... that he's more top ten than top five.... is his run blocking a deal breaker ?? and how good is Alt ?? (don't think either will be there btw)

and if we trade back, who are your targets ?? Kool Aid ?? how far back does Newton fall back... or is he worth a top ten pick ?? what about Tuimoloau, Trice, or even Verse.... ??
Ill be keeping an open mind...my approach at this point is where the players are near in talent and value, I lean towards offense...its more strategic, than actual BPA..if Latu was Will Anderson, it would be different...but at this point, I like the offensive prospects enough to disregard the defense.

Also, at this point..Newton doesnt look like the next Q Williams or Jordan Davis...I like him, but not top 5.

I dont have a handle on the tackle class yet...if there is serious depth, and a good RT might be there in the top of second, might shake things up...as of right now, I do like some solid day 2 Edge prospects, who would be very nice compliments to Tuli...so as a tiebreaker, that devalues Latu vs the OTs early...

And yes, I am dazzled by Bowers and MHjr...I see what Gibbs and La Porta have done for Detroit, especially last night...and I think the next regime can coach a lot more out of these O and D lineman, so although I would love to see them addressed, there are 2 skill players I would select with our 1, and thats MHjr and Bowers.

Regards to trade back....if its 10 to 15 range we land in...Newton, Verse, Koolaid all in play, along with Latham...Bowers trumps all if he is still there...but if WR interests us, its a stacked second tier, I dont reach for Odunze here, think Nabors is gone...still prob pass him...after MHjr miracle, its day 2 for WR...

Tell you this...Ill be hard to disappoint this year with the first pick...all the prospects we are debating would look good in bolts...
    Lone Bolt's Final Mock

Tyler Booker G, Josaiah Stewart Edge, Cam Skattebo RB, Mitchell Evans TE, Jamaree Caldwell NT, Isaac TeSlaa WR, Ahmed Hassanein DE, Craig Woodson S, Eli Cox C, Kalel Mullings RB

Sleeper day 3 pick: Tahj Brooks RB Texas Tech

A new report came out projecting that the Chargers will be $41 million over the cap for 2024. OverTheCap has been estimating $27 million based on an expected 14% increase in 2024's cap.... however, that 14% increase will not happen. Here's the article and a lot of the options the Chargers have to shed $41 million by the official start of the new season.

In many of my roster re-builds, I start by cutting Corey Linsley... and signing a FA center. IMO, the re-signing of a FA center probably won't happen now. On a side note... my favorite FA center (Connor Williams) tore his ACL last week. I may have to start penciling in center... Beach will love that.

Re-structures, cuts, and trades on the horizon. Filling the holes during the draft. I used to think the re-build could be done in 1 or 2 years. Now, it looks more like 2 to 3 years. And that's only if the new GM does a very good job and starts hitting on some mid/late rounders.

We got eight sacks against the Jets, who also gave up seven to the Dolphins, six to the Bills, five to the Eagles, and four each to the Broncos, Giants, Falcons, and Texans. We got seven sacks against the Raiders, who gave up six to the Lions and four each to the Steelers, Packers, and Vikings. Regardless, the point still stands: only ONE defensive lineman, Tuli, looks like he has a long-term future with this team from here on out. The rest are likely gone by 2025, at the latest.

Where did we get Keenan Allen and Vincent Jackson? Third round. Where did we get Malcom Floyd, Antonio Gates, and Austin Ekeler? Undrafted free agents. What is your point?

This is obviously your unprofessional opinion. You have no idea that Latu is not as good as Nick Bosa, or Brock Bowers will be an All-Pro talent. If you did, you'd be working in an NFL front office instead of commenting on a message forum.

A lot of players dominate at the college level. Vince Young had perhaps the greatest game ever by a college quarterback in an upset victory over USC in the 2005 National Championship Game. Melvin Gordon holds the record for most rushing yards in a single game at the college level, with 408. Kellen Winslow II dominated Ohio State's defense with 11 catches for 122 yards and a touchdown in the 2002 National Championship Game. That doesn't mean they're going to be legends in the NFL.

Look, I get it. Brock Bowers is an intriguing prospect who could be great in the NFL. But would I pick him over a pass-rusher who could also be dominant in the NFL? No.
I went to that game, only RB I’ve ever been too. My best friend from back in MI moved out to Pasadena near his sister and invited me and my wife to the game. Not sure his interest in the game, he’s Go Blue UM to the marrow. but my wife and I both have familial USC connections and I thought that was incredibly cool thing of him to offer and of course we accepted.

mid-way thru the game he asked me for money for the tickets. Fucking say what? I gave him money, I was fortunate to have that kind of cash in my wallet at all, but that is the kind of detail shit you clarify BEFORE you take someone to a big game if you’re expecting them to pay you for your tickets, right?

Oh, and they wanted to go out for fondu. I’m thinking surely it must be a trendy CA-chef inspired update to this 60s tradition where there is actual fucking food and not just bread chunks dunked in cheese. Right? Maybe some cubed meats, veggies, other items to slather in cheese, right? .No - just fucking bread squares, go ahead and dip it in that there molten cheese. Fucking A - this too should be clarified BEFORE you dine . At least I didnt have to go to a hookah pipe lounge, i guess.

Young had an incredible game, sucked as a pro - you’re 100% correct. I bet he didnt have eat fondu. KW2 was a head case, something wrong with that young man’s brain, sad / sick story actually. Johnny Manziel, hows that for an example?

Thing about Linsley, if we cut him after June 1st, we save 11.2 mil as opposed to 8.9 mil and his dead cap goes down from 5.2 mil to 2.6 mil. So they would need to get under they cap before they cut him and he has no bonuses coming. That article thinks they will restructure Linsley. Thats a NO. He wont be able to play and he will retire or be cut.

I assume thats what they ill do with him. His saving will come eventually but not before FA or the draft. And Biadasz is not Williams but he is a decent vet OC. Cushenberry is a FA as well.

The problem with a post June cut: It doesn't help you get cap compliant before the official start of the season. Extensions on Keenan Allen and/or Khalil Mack would have to be done. I guess that will have to be done anyways. The new GM will have his work cut out for him...

I know....they will figure it out. As long as they are under by the time the new year starts, then they can continue to work on the cap. They dont need to sign their rookies till after June 1st.

I have no problem going after the best player to help Herbert, but you don't need 1rst rounders to get a solid Oline.
When Rivers was playing behind good offensive lines he was going 14-2, 11-5, and 13-3, and in 2007 he was in the AFC Championship Game and probably would have been in the Super Bowl if he had been playing on two legs. After Marcus McNeill was finished and this organization stupidly thought Jeromey Clary was a starting right tackle who didn't need an upgrade we began missing the playoffs more often than not.

^ This...the beginning of the Bolts O-line woes...Franklin was a FA signing who ended up being a bust...they never really addressed C and G and had to rely on scrubs like Harris, Haslam and Hadnot...later on, Fluke was a bust, and they picked up more scrubs like Wiggins, Max Starks and Willie Smith...ugh...those were some lean years...

With a combo of Herbo and Harrison and today's offense-happy rules, we will have a chance to overcome any deficit and win any game however little the odds.

can anyone remember any recent games that looked bleak by the end of the first quarter?
In my unprofessional opinion Marvin Harrison, Jr. is the best player in the draft. He's the one skill player on offense I would to take in the top ten. I think we have no chance of getting him, though.

I never said "filling in all the holes" and "fixing all the issues" by trading back was the plan for this offseason. There are those of us who believe in prioritizing the defense (I think it should be the line, others are looking at Kool-Aid) over a tight end. The tight end position is not nearly as important as a pass-rusher, defensive tackle, or cornerback. Taking Bowers over a talented player at any of the aforementioned positions and saying, "Well, we have at least seven picks" is implying that you think we're going to find solutions to those areas of need in Rounds 2 through 7. The reality is, those positions are not nearly as easy to find in later rounds.
